I had to sign one for one of the biggest publicly traded cannabis companies. So I can say from experience that some of the big wig companies do still practice this. They just don’t exactly advertise it until you’re a few days into working for them.
The woman who took me through the hiring process even said as I was signing it that she’s never heard of anyone ever being penalized for going to another company and knew of multiple employees who went elsewhere. I think it was to just to scare people out of leaving/messing up more than it was to protect IP. A few years later I took and offer from a competitor less than a week after leaving and never heard anything.
