Has anyone used moonshine as a solvent?? I have access to loads of moonshine made from a potato mash and was wondering if it would be a suitable?? If so any advice to do it right the first time?? Just not sure if the taste of it will effect anything or if i need to test the alcohol content or anything??

Depends on what you want out of your solvent. Extraction? Winterizing? LLE?

I’m planning on using it for filtration before running distillate.
Sorry, I’m not totally up to the lingo with all the terms. Will definitely be getting winterized obviously.

Should be fine if you have a good filtration / winterizing sop.
I’d check the proof/ water content of your alcohol. Perhaps even filter or distill your clean alcohol first.

People often use “moonshine” aka ethanol/EtOH in their extraction processes. BUT it’s typically highly distilled/purified anhydrous EtOH and not moonshine, because it still has significant water content and can pick up more undesirable water-soluble compounds.

Remove the h20 and filter through activated carbon a few times to remove any still oders.
Should work just like reg etoh, because it is!

If it is not 190proof, then it will not work the same as 190 proof. You need 190.
One can make 190 at home. Most don’t.
Some states sell “everclear” at 190, some sell it at 150. 150 sucks as a solvent for cannabinoids.
If you winterize with 150, all or most of your cannabinoids will be on your filter paper.
Molecular sieves and Activate Carbon are your new favorite search terms…

The 150 proof ban in ca is stupid. You could easly get alcohol poisoning from drinking 150 as you could 195. I don’t think this ban really prevents any deaths. Ever try a taste of 195? It’s akin to drinking any other solvent at that point.

In addition to tasting my extracts, I admit to tasting the recovered solvent. If it didn’t taste good, it was cleaning solvent.
Good is clearly a relative term. Most could appreciate the nose, few the actual taste.

One time I though agar would make a “ok” jello shot. I used leftover pda and 195, mixed with some crystall light powder. Danm it if wasn’t the grossest chewyest thing I have made ever, this rivals burned toast for flavor! Coulden’t even swallow the damn thing!

Im afraid to taste my terp-shine. I may like it and drink my stock pile up vs my.elcheapo beer or my 1800 silver I drink other times.
