Mjbizcon is dead - prove me wrong

I was at Discopussy last year. Your ice cream party intrigues me.

Two, overlapping events that go until 5am! Savage. I had a hard enough time with one event going until 9pm. These look great! I hope they are successful and you have a great time.

I am heading to Vegas tomorrow for Supply Side Global. Even when I am skipping MJB, I can’t seem to escape a few nights in Vegas. Let’s see who is canna curious in the ingredient and nutraceutical space.

The number of folks on LinkedIn who aren’t attending this year is interesting. There is so much empty space on the floor plan and freebie/non-profit/equity installations that it is hard to tell how much Biz is at MJBiz this year. NuWu is jockeying for position of official sesh spot. I hope their compliance process is more straight forward than Planet 13. Consumption lounges sound fun but it was cumbersome AF to get to the actual consumption.

I hope everyone who goes has a great time, makes tons of good contacts and sells their goods!

So no Las Vegas cannabis week @Sidco_Cat?

What’s going on with the glg party? Might just fly in for the night. Then head to Cali to do some riding.

Those were the days! I miss GLG events with homemade food and no rules. @Future might be flying in for a night and put together a meet up, but no big doings this year. I hope you have a great trip and fun in California. You are the wind beneath the wings of a lot of labs in this industry and beyond. Keep on keeping on.

Does one actually get sales from this approach?

How does it work? You just cold call in person?

Where you riding at?

I will be out for the evening of the 4th and for the full day of the 5th…

JD will be rocking the booth otherwise! Have some new gear in the works…

From our 70 foot sub-cooler / economizer heat exchanger, to our patented extraction method/system without heaters and expensive chillers to the extraction sensor (working on making it functional for the expo now). It has been a busy few months working on new tech to bring to the industry!

Always pushing the envelope further… have some super cool tech on the horizon!

Come holler @ Booth #C23107 for the latest in extraction technology!

Gonna happily stay in paradise for MJbizcon. Honestly last year sucked. I can’t imagine it getting any better any time soon.

They need to move that shit to tropical weather in December rather than 30-40 degrees in the dessert.

Have fun guys.

@Killa12345 I know you’ve gone to most (all?) of the MJBizCon’s in the past and been pretty enthusiastic about it beforehand.

In your opinion in what ways has it declined so much that you don’t even feel like going? Just not enough people showing up to be worth it business-wise or something else with the overall atmosphere of it? I’m genuinely curious.

I agree they could maybe change the venue to improve things, Vegas sure ain’t what it used to be. But that won’t mean people are all of a sudden ready to buy everything in sight like 2018-2022.

I went on the official MJBiz website and went through the vendor pages, looks like there’s about 600 listed on there. They advertise 1000.

I’ve also noticed there doesn’t seem to be nearly as much ā€œInstagram hypeā€ as there used to be. I hardly see anyone teasing new tech or special offerings.

I’ll be interested to hear what people think about this year’s gathering.

the industry is not booming anymore with very few new labs starting and more shutting down.

the technology push is tapering off, with only a few people innovating these days.

Used equipment is everywhere and for pennies on the dollar.

the squeeze is real for vendors and operators and people are feeling it, its a tough market these days and its really hard for vendors to justify the extremely high price to exhibit so they just wont come anymore.

its also just becoming more corporate overall which isnt ever going to be as fun or interesting as the legacy crews being around.

I think i have gone the last 5 years and its consistently tapering off and last year i covered everything new in a couple hours, when originally it took multiple days and i would still miss a lot.

I believe MJbiz is dead for a few reasons. First and foremost, as everyone has stated, cannabis industry as a whole has been experiencing price contraction/race to the bottom, tighter margins, etc.etc.etc. This is largely due to the inflated value given to cannabis carried over from legacy pricing accounting for risk which no longer exists. I think the 50 billion dollar market valuation is largely inflated.

Each legal state has unique cannabis laws and cannot legally move product across state lines. This makes national-level conventions a waste of time, money, and resources where local events offer on-site purchasing and consumption, local/more relevant connections, and lower costs.

MJbizcon has lost steam due to high cost, poor roi, and a flood of Chinese vendors. The big money comes the day before/first day, meet at certain bars/venues, and take off before the citizens arrive. There are far fewer entrepreneurs and inventors in cannabis not because there is no more innovation but because there is no more massive profit for innovation. They’d be better to work on electric shavers, air fryers, and foot baths because they’ll generate better money than a new cannabis gadget.

Whose left are the moron chads, the wooks, the rejects of [insert industry here], masochists, Chinese vendors, and the blindly passionate. Don’t know where I fall on that spectrum… but probably a little bit of each group so no offense to anyone who feels called out.

I don’t see any MSOs with booths. Its not even corporate… its just a ā€œwhere still here!ā€ convention. Its not like anyone who is still around needs to find a good light company, or a good cart company. They know the companies, they have the contacts… and are getting barraged in info all year around about what new shit is coming out. If they are in the market for something, they know where to look to find it. They know who to call by now. They are us, on this forum!

Its just not my type of thing. im not the corporate type. I dont like the disappointment from people you talk to that swear they will do business with you in the new year to practically ignore your existence.

Corporate Cannabis has always been sorta fake to me and MJbizcon has just kept getting more corporate by the year. I use to like to party there as a celebration to the end of a successful year but over the years i just see too much hardcore drug use by the same kumbaya people.

Its just a contradictory place for me. We had one of the most successful year since weve been in business but my top 5 customers arent even in the cannabis space. Id be better off targeting medical device companies and mechanical engineering schools.

i hope everyone has a safe week. Im sure there will be plenty of bold face lies, deception, thievery, etc which makes me regret going every year!
