Minimum equipment for CO2 extraction for CBD full spectrum oil

Hi All,

What are the minimum essential pieces of equipment to make high quality CBD full spectrum oil using the co2 extraction method? Thanks

Welcome to the Future @MikeHoncho
There’s lots of information on this site regarding what equipment works for your needs. Use that search bar and let the learning begin!!
Youll need a C02 skid sized appropriate for your envisioned throughput. If winterizing crude youll need a way to get your solvent cold, filtered and evaporated leaving you with good usable crude.
Again, all of this is available here if you choose to read and try it.

Hi Mike, you might first ask why people are having trouble giving CO2 rigs away…

SOLD*Who wants a Eden CO2 system for literally whatever

Why do you want to use CO2?

What do you perceive the benefits to be?

Read up on winterization, then ponder why just extracting with cold ethanol in the first place doesn’t make more sense

Concerned about the controls needed around extraction and safe atmospheres + cost of Ethanol. It is true I’ll need to use ethanol (small quantity) in the post processing of CO2 anyway though.

Be more concerned about the end product you want to make.

What’s your all in budget including permitting, real estate, equipment, consumables/packaging and initial employees?
What’s your market size?
Do you have/want a license/permit?
Can you find a property that is properly zoned?
What finished goods are you going to sell?
How much do you want to produce every shift/day/week?
What will be the quality of your input material?
How will you control the quality of your input material?

Answering those questions will get you started and help you determine if it’s even reasonable to set up any lab, much less the most expensive type.

How do you plan to compete with folks using far more efficient extraction methods?

CBD isolate isn’t worth much these days….

“Full spectrum” means what to you?

Have you seen or sampled that which you wish to make?
Have you looked at throughput and equipment to get there?

Now is a great time to pick up used CO2 machines, but unless you’ve got someone on your team who can perform chromatography in supercritical CO2 or can set you up for CXE, the plan to enter the “full spectrum” CBD market with an off the shelf CO2 rig seems doomed to failure from here.

There might still be room for HTE/terpene production, but winning there is about the genetics or flat out lying about hemp vs cannabis.

(Nah man, that’s THCa hemp…)

You should check out the vendors that are verified to advertise on the site, send a few DMs and see if you can find a supplier for the concentrate you are trying to acheive. I can almost guarantee someone out there is selling it for cheaper than you’re going to be able to produce it at. Focus on the formulations and products you can make with this oil, and you might still have a profitable business.
