6-8 hours is excessive
There is no reason whatsoever fill media containers only 1/3 full. If anything you probably want to minimize air in the container because air contains water!
Using a reactor to dry out your media it’s just a waste of the capacity of the reactor in a good way to wear it out. Just use a conventional oven to dry out the media one or two hours at about 400°F or so be done with it it’s not that complicated people
I’m amazed these consultants can command $500 an hour on the phone but they don’t even have any basic chemistry knowledge. @murphymurri
Don’t bake unless you’re going to run fresh frozen or live material. Moisture brings benefits to the process and can also have negative effects but only when there is too much water present. From my experience this happens when the mol sieve is not drying out the solvent enough between runs and moisture builds up or when running fresh frozen. It will cause slacking which is when the clay takes on a mud like consistency and you loose permeability in your filter
I’m not “talking shit” I’m calling her out on her false accusation and associated virtue signaling surrounding BVV. I’m also calling her out on her overzealous and overkill media prep instructions.
Imagine if you had a business and someone made a very serious accusation against you by saying you are intentionally doing harm to others without offering a shred of proof other than you offer a particular product for sale that is widely available. That’s what Ms. Bonehead did and like dogs, the minions on social media lapped it up and condemned BVV without even attempting to look into the matter.
She even made a weak attempt at explaining herself here but it just descended into “I don’t care about the truth I’m saving the industry” BS virtue signaling. Of course there was no apology given to BVV or acknowledgement of her mistake.
And now you come running to her rescue a year later by flagging my “terrible” post. Perfect example of the world-at-large today.
Also, there are several aspects of her media prep infographic that I feel I’m rightfully taking issue with. Just because someone has a little sway in the industry and is recognized as a GLG member doesn’t mean they can just make up rules out of thin air and expect me to accept them. That’s what happened here.
Overall Sidco_Cat I’m just confused by your attitude here because you not only saw fit to flag my completely non-profane and non-threatening post but you also thought it was appropriate to “@” mention me to draw my attention to the fact that you’re admonishing me. It’s very petty IMO.
There have been so many more flag worthy posts on this forum than what I’ve said here that I can’t help but think there is more going on here.
I’ll cut right to the chase: Are you standing up for her because you think I’m “picking on” one of your fellow females-in-cannabis? That’s the first thing that jumps into my head.
This sucks. Every valuable conversation as of late has been hijacked by drama. Can we check our ego’s at the door? Disagree with ideas and processes with the purpose of growth. Who cares what our personal opinions are on a company.
I don’t want to silence anyone. I don’t even think I’d object to a link to a side thread about some drama. But good threads are constantly being hijacked and they become impossible to read for content.
I absolutely agree!
I really love this forum, I read a fair amount nearly every day. So many of the threads are stuffed with senseless arguing about things that have nothing to do with the thread.
Wasting time reading really sucks, I am horribly dyslexic, it takes me hours to read what it takes a normal person 30 minutes to read. When a thread says 400 posts 30 minute or 45 minute read time I am reading for 10 to 12 hours over the course of several days.
Regardless of what people in here are arguing about i sm still incredibly grateful this place exists! I have learned a lot here. Thank you!
I know this is an old thread I am hoping if I post in a few of these maybe someone can shed some light on an issue I am having.
I have a closed loop with a 6-in x 48-in material column that I can typically fit somewhere close to 10 lb in. I have a 6-in by 12-in CRC not including the filter plate and reducer.
I have never baked media before recently. I built this machine myself buying individual pieces on the internet. I’ve been doing this for a few years now. A rough idea of how many runs to be conservative I would say if I only did one for a week at 2 years I’ve done at least a hundred. Possibly four or five times that but at least a hundred anyway. In doing all of these runs besides the last three or four I have never baked media. The first time I baked the media it was only B80 and I baked it in a BVV vacuum oven at 215° because that’s the highest that oven goes. I did it overnight and turned the vacuum on after opening the door and venting quite a few times and wiping the glass down. I would vacuum it for a short amount of time and then turn the pump off and leave static vacuum for a while. I’m reasonably certain I did two 10 lb runs this way and the remediation seemed to be amazingly better. B80 seemed to remediate far better than it usually does. I had no sort of channeling in the CRC or any issues. I of course always vacuum the CRC from the base. The only thing I noticed besides better remediation was slower flow. That did not bother me at all. The next two runs were terrible. I used perform 6000 and I did it in my old across international oven at 300° for roughly the same duration of time and same procedure but when it was done I left it under static vacuum for probably a week until I was ready to use it. The across international oven is incredibly filthy with burnt extract all over the walls. I bought it this way and never got around to cleaning it. There was an incredibly nasty layer on the top as described in this thread and I had not read this thread yet so I put all of it in CRC, the nasty layer on top and everything. For this run I did 9.6 lb of material that I have done many times before. At the base I mixed 460 grams of aluminum and in the middle was 960 g of perform 6000 and then at the top was 460 g of silica. A typical yield from this material would be between 400 and 500 g this time I got a yield of around 160 to 170. I have yet to weigh the jars that had some solvent left in them so I’m not certain of an exact yield. I have no idea why it would do this other than possibly using too much silica and eating the yield. The other Pyrex dish I had in the oven I used on the next run with the exact same material. I only used perform 6000 this time and nothing else. I did the same SOP as always and was extra careful as not to cause channeling because there was such a small amount of media in the CRC. I believe it was 900 g this time. Possibly 950. It seemed perfectly fine and then it channeled and ruined the run but the odd part is the yield was only 260 g roughly. Can over baking media somehow lead to eating a yield this dramatically? I probably will not bake anything anymore and if I do it will be in the 215° oven for six or eight hours as I did before. I’m just curious if overbaking could cause a yield to be dramatically lowered.
