Time frame on keeping a healthy mothers before running into issues? Training techniques on young mothers? Tips for keeping moms longer?
Build an aeroflo.
You can keep moms alive for a long ass time
The key is to not tlwt them get sick, and if they do don’t take any cuts until they are better
Reporting them is important don’t let them get root bound
Google banzai cannabis mothers, basically cut the roots and replant it!!!
Will have to look it up
Root Room is your friend.
It’s made by general hydroponics. The rails are 5" vinyl post covers, lowes and home depot sell them.
I went to see profesor Grassi in Italy in his institute.
He grew indoors giganta madre planta in a freaking 5L bowls. I mean the diameter of the plant did come close to the diameter of the stem (a strong elbow width).
They keept falling down as he said, it was his super cropping since he picked them up every day:)
So what I wanted to share from this experience is that the rootmass can be sustained in small pots if your nutrition plan takes into account root rejuventation supplements.
Anyway 3m indoor mother plants in freaking 5L pots…LOL:)nature is amazing
A cloner pratice in EU is to have plants from 6-9 months before rejuventation either with prior clonal curtings at 3 months in full vigor,
And ofc micropropagation is being used at times but not common.
I have had plants for years, but after a year or two the vigor dropa drammatically bacause of woody tissue prevalence. A friend still has his orange but from 2005, but he is very strict clonal regime renewing almost every 2 months - 3 months. Plant looks like day one…
Also as long as the plants are healthy, there is nothing saying that genetic drift happens with a clone of a clone of a clone of a clone…as long as it stays healthy doesn’t get root bound then that is absolutely possible
From shantibaba in a treating yourself article years back
“… However the most essential part of keeping a strain(s) going for many years in great health will be this single feature. Mother and father plants used to clone from and to maintain the genetics from are usually grown under artificial lights. To manage the fitness and health of the strain it is essential to cut a clone from the old mother/fathers, root them and grow them under natural sunlight for a period of about 1-2 months then bring them or a clone of them back inside to take over from the old parents as new mother/father plants. This single aspect of growing the plant outside for part of the year will ensure the new parent plants that the clones come from will be virile and strong, instilling a certain level of fitness in the strain. Repeat this year after year and the strain will out live you! My plant library exists since decades this way and they show no sign of deterioration, nor does a single clone coming from them!”
Coco 1 gallon grow the thing to 6 feet no issue
Ive only kept strains a few years. I usually restart from a healthy clone. I am indoor and cant have a giant mom unless its the best ever. I let moms get up to where they are over waist height and huge and then take cuts to continue. I go moms of cloners gear. Gonna load up ICC- dank dense kushlike bud. and BBM- you all know it. And don carlos- YA MON!!! I remember a giant gelato x sour diesel a few years ago taking up my kitchen capi style. Its got alot of windows from all sides.
I like to top as a clone and then continue to top and stress train the taller branches and bend them lower than the lowest node. I think of it as a hybrid method of these few techniques.
im about to take clones off cloners gear= moms are huge and the the horti blue 1k has them rocking to clone off. Under that light they transpire HUGE. They appear powdery mildew free but Ill keep spraying them. I am not sharing or selling cloners gear- hit him up if you want them… Im gonna do the glp style 6 node clone, they work in an aerocloner.
Ok so I’m preparing for this year I have setup clone room for triploids
Started with 100 seeds and have 500 clones in there 4 week
Wich Totals 600 mothers that I want to keep healthy and strong to produce
Hopefully 5000 clones a week
Starting around the 1 March I hope to cut 5000 clones a week and keep these refrigerated for up to 6 weeks max
On 1 of April I want to place thes in there starter blocks and pre grow them in a lighted /heated greenhouse till the 15 may when I will start to place them in the fields hopefully a bit stronger than the average clone
The goal is to weekly place 10000 pre grown clones in the field till the 15 / 30 June approx
I have 3 strains all are photo so they could stay on the field till mid oktober
But when they are ready they are ready so time will tell
Questions
What lightning preferably led would you recomend for mothers ?
What lightning preferably led for pre growing clones ?
What size pots are generally used for mothers (65 liters is what I am contemplating ) ?
What size pot would you recomend for pregrowing contemplating on 0.7L
Wich is 4.5”x4.5” x5” approx ?
What dieet would you put the mothers on ?
Would you feed more than a root grow supplement to the clones ?
The clones will be growing under TL lightning as I have always done
It s once they get transferred to the grow pots of 0.7 L that I still need to
Figure out
By the time they get into the field the sun will be already at 80% force so like to train them BUT electrics is scarce so need to find a balanced lighting source
O well please recommendations and
Tips
I don’t know what you have available in regard to greenhouse suppliers, but the standard for plants of any kind is a 1020 web flat, two square feet, into which go inserts of whatever cell size you choose. I used 48 cell inserts for most of my plants. For larger plants, I used a product called sheet of pots, mine were 18 to a flat. I like the deep version better.
In 2019, the one glory year of hemp here in the US for most of us, I raised about 30,000 plants from seed by myself. It saves a lot of work if you can inject calcium nitrate into your irrigation water.
I’ve never done clones at that scale, but I would guess it involves a lot of pruning to the mother plants. You probably want to train your workers to dip their shears in bleach, or maybe heat/fire, before they go from one plant to the next, just to minimize the chance of spreading any potential disease.
Thank you
The mothers and cloning in general is an old hobby last preformed at scale in 2004 yust checking what has changed in the last 20 years in the art
Here in the Netherlands we work on what we call danish carts
Carts on wheels that have 5 shelves with tl lightning underneath each shelf
Placed in a high humidity enviorment
And usually once rooted they go out the door to indoor grows
In my case a green house
We seeded a total of 200k plants last year in marocco wich went well and is common
But deu to beeing polyploids that’s not an option
As for sterile you are right it s very important isopropanol 70% works well as disinfectant and a shit load of 1 time use scalpels
I just pull clones when i put the next round into flower? Less problems imo. I grow in dirt, so the clones are ready to flower when the previous ones done.
Im medical and only one flower room, when i crop room empty ,clean, then put new ones in. And i pull clones either week before enter flower or within a weeknof entering flower. So if prblms rooting u have anothwr shot to pull more before to far into flower.
Moms imo get root bound, increases chances of pests and mildew.
I sippose depends on ur rotation for what most efficient.
How many mothers for how many clones ? I am used to pick around 50 clones per mom every 2 weeks 5 moms 1 hps 400w light if I crank to 1000W I can pull 50 a week approx
But rumor has it some take 150-250 a week wonder how ?
What size pots for the mom s and average life span of your mom s
Ps this is in dirt outdoor grow preparation photo strain
