MA Testing Laboratories

Hey chooms.

I’ve been getting back test results that are wildly inconsistent across the board and I’m hoping some of my fellow Massachusetts extractors might be able to provide some insight. Earlier this year we had sent out a sample of distillate to Kaycha labs which came back at 65% d9, 17% CBC. Another sample from the same batch had been sent to Analytics and that came back at 63% d9 but ND on the CBC. A sample was sent to Green Valley and came back at 72% d9, 80% TAC. Analytics gave a result of 88% d9, 91% TAC. Most recently, a sample was sent to Analytics that came back at 97% d9, 100.8% TAC. MCR gave us 85% d9, 89% TAC.

These are only a few examples, but the business owner wants us to stop sending samples out to multiple labs so I can’t really shop around. I just don’t know whose results to trust, and these inconsistencies make formulations a nightmare. Has anyone else been dealing with this issue? What labs do you trust in this state?

MCR has given us the most consistent results for our extracts , i have seen obscure numbers from Green analytics, Smithers, and ATL labs before but typically for flower testing. anytime ive seen a tac over 100% its always a data entry error. Definitely recommend sticking with MCR the most

That is crazy your state allows lab shopping like that! In Vegas it can only be sent to one lab and that’s it. if i sent the same sample to another lab Metrc would lock it up asap. I’m also not sure how true it is but the lab tech who comes to my facility to collect the samples told me that once they calibrate there machine it cannot be adjusted again without state approval, so a lab that’s calibrated for flower will have non accurate readings for concentrates and vise versa.

ProVerde Labs is probably the most consistent and truthful lab that won’t inflate numbers… but with truth comes the likelihood that you’ll see a few more failures for mold and contaminants than you’d like.

Personally, I want truthful numbers. Like you, I created a number of formulations and needed legitimate results to make adjustments.

That “CBC” is probably misidentified “D10”…which is just piss poor analysis at this point.

Which probably mean you’ve got more going on than just bad analytics…

I’ve no experience with ProVerde personally, I’ll take this into consideration. I’d rather a hard truth, at this point in my career I don’t have an ego to be inflated along with my THC percentages. Thank you.

Fascinating. That was a one-off result from before I was hired to manage this lab, I believe they had used an acidic media during color remediation for that batch. That would be consistent with d10, but there’s also no d8 in the analysis. Either way, I love a good mystery and that’s good information to start with. Thank you.

Potency inflation is an industry wide problem.

Best solution is in house analytics and a trusted lab partner.

I’d avoid a lab that can’t recognize that D10 is not CBC (means they’re not paying attention to what their machine is telling them). Might be worth bringing it up with their lab director, might not.

I had a GC at a previous employer which was great. Unfortunately my current employers aren’t very keen on spending money, hence the insistence that we stop sending out cannabinoid tests for the same batch when those are only $50 a pop. It’s difficult to figure out who to trust on results right now. But yeah I’ll definitely have a word with them, between giving a result of 100.8% TAC and misinterpreting d10 for CBC my faith in their abilities has dwindled.

“It’s state mandated testing boss, only an idiot would go in there without knowing the answer upfront…”
