Hope everyone is doing well, im looking to see if anyone might have some feedback to help me.
No matter what hardware i use disposable or cart my blends always seem to be a bit harsh on the throat. The distillate is tested and clean, terps are 4-5% bdts(from good suppliers, abstrax/mass and a few others) also use CDTs in a few blends at 5%, i usually mix hot (190-200f) with the cat x1000d and then fill hot. I am wondering if maybe filling colder will make the end product smoother? The cat wont work well if the oil isnt pretty hot to mix, could this be an intake hole size issue? I know terpenes can be harsh but even just the raw distillate still has a bit of a harshness to it (this is an ongoing thing im trying to fix, not just this batch of distillate and finally wanted to post to the forum). Ive tried a few different distillate disposables recently from some big reputable brands and they just hit so smooth im wondering what my issue might be. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
We run liter batches
I also do not steep the mixtures, goes from mixing right to filling. Should i try steeping after mixing?
Your mix might have too high of a viscosity. You can add cbc distillate to lower it.
If the distillate/terp mix is too thick, it wont wick into the atomizer at a fast enough rate to keep the atomizer saturated with oil which causes it to burn/be harsh.
Used to work for Truileve. We always used at least 10% terps for our distillate carts. Always artificial food flavorings. They weren’t the smoothest, but definitely thinned them out enough to not be harsh.
I wouldent say bad starting material, im probably just a bit sensitive to dist as only times ive tried it raw i dont give to anyone else to test(this is multiple different batches always mid 90s total clean with full panel)
If there is a harshness to it you have volatile compounds still present. Since you did a full panel one of the first that come to mind are beta caryophyllene, which could also be present within the botanicals used. What’s the panel show?
My apologies, by full panel i meant a cat 3(pest,heavy metals, micro, solvent etc) usually never get a terp test on the distillate, ill check the tests for the terps themselves though thanks for the info i didnt know about that
That harshness will carry on, it shouldnt be harsh without terps, and your disty shouldnt have terps unless you arent cutting your head fraction properly.
What type of battery are you using? have you tried just turning down the voltage on your adjustable battery. please tell me you are using an adjustable battery.
Ive been doing this wrong for a minute now with disposables… smh
The device testing i mainly try myself is for disposables not cartridges, they feature 2x 1.8mm holes, ordered some cbc im waiting on to see if the viscosity is the issue but today i decided to try something while waiting for the cbc and did 10% terps on one of our flavors we usually do 5% on. It hits smoother than the 5% with little to no nose burn suprisingly. Oil is flowing into the coil and staying wicked properly. Viscosity was defenitly my issue im a bit mindblown right now…
Normally with just 4-5% terps i think the coil isnt getting fully wicked which is causing it to be harsh, they will taste good and then right after u finish hit smell a bit burnt. The 10% just smells like terps afterwards and its only been a few hrs since filled and its hitting so much better its insane
Granted this sample is not a flavor infused bdt and just a regular strain profile, flavor infused would probably be way to strong @10%so im planning on keeping terps around normal % but defenitly thinning with some cbc
