Lab Society Elite Lab

Hello, I have Lab Society’s LS TCM 1 short path distillation kit and Elite Lab software stop working.

Is there any way how to unlock it or take control of the equipment? I have tried to take control manually but io think is binded to Elite lab software .

Thanks

Can you say a little more about what “not working” looks like?

I’m sorry I just saw your reply. Lab society elite lab doesn’t open at all. I got black screen because the subscription has end and we cannot log in to subscribe. I have tried to go manual but I can’t control flask temp. Everything is tested and works properly

That is a giant bummer. I hope there’s a work around for you.

What mantle controller do you have? You should be able to hold the leftmost button on the PID and use the other two to adjust the set point up or down

I thought lab society was using J-kem controllers

Let’s see some pics of your controller hardware/setup lab society did a lot of badge engineering where they slapped their sticker over others equipment if we can identify the oem might be able to offer better help

It’s like a pretty basic setup PID controller with SCR…

Technically you could get rid of everything else and just use that. Easy fix. Or it’s the PID controller itself that’s bad and at that point you might as well just start over and make one from scratch because it’s $25 for a replacement.

Or if you wanted to just make a new one from the scratch. I put together a bunch of these many times to run different aspects. Back when I was doing hot condenser tech I would wrap heat tape around the tubing and insert a temperature probe into it and then I would control it with one of these instead of what came with the heat tape because the heat tape would overshoot constantly and you didn’t have really good control of the temperature.

Not too much that can go wrong with those it’s either a bad PID controller or bad SCR but like you said it probably isn’t bad at all and it’s just the subscription is blocking you. A temperature controller is literally a $25 combo of a PID SCR and a k-type temperature probe. There’s also a good chance you could just disconnect the lan connection PC that’s blocking the PID from working.

Small chance you might need to run a jumper wire to turn the PID controller on because that’s probably what it’s doing. Just look over the schematics and you can pretty much figure everything out really easy.

If you decide to make a custom one from scratch hit me up and I will walk you through it step by step.

Happy to help as always. :flexed_biceps:

It’s a controller made by J-kem. They can fix it.

I have contact J-kem for support, if I have no luck I’ll make my own set up.

Thanks Zack for the offer, I’ll contact you.

Makes sense from what I see from your internal pic… Everything is very standard for a PID controller except for the RX/TX input from the LAN connection. That is the leash holder on your subscription and what is preventing it from working I would think.

Technically if it’s all just k-type temperature probes and whatnot you can use pretty much any controller at that point and just pop the old one out put a new one in and boom you’re fkn free :joy:

ill try to disconnect the cable first

This is what he will need to do since the current PID controller has custom firmware with DRM

That board with the USB port on it is just a usb to serial dongle - no actual DRM logic is in on that board!

Guarantee Claude code or codex can write you a program to run/bypass it.

https://grobotronics.com/usb-to-rs485-module-ft232.html do you think this good ? there is English description lower at the page.

He was saying the USB to serial has nothing to do with the lockdown and it’s the PID itself has a programming lock built into it.

The likely easiest way to get around it is to swap the PID itself with a $20 unit. Just gotta know the probe type.

bingo! J KEM reply to me with instructions of how to unlock the PID and it worked. Next plan to use software for ramps ! I ll update here.

I have something like I think 8 to 12 (I can’t remember off hand and I don’t feel like looking at the moment) different J-Kem devices and I’m fairly happy with all of them and I’m fairly happy with the service J-Kem has offered me over the past few years.

Your heating mantle is made by Glas-Col which just like J-Kem is an American company with good customer support and good build quality and just like J-Kem you can find replacement parts from them and rebuild it should anything go wrong with it.
