it may not have been as clean as it could have been also. You can always do an A/B on it to clean it up some more, or even just recrystalize it in heptane. When vaped correctly it won’t taste bad at all. I quite enjoy the taste. It’s very floral, slightly moth ball / new shoes taste. When vaped properly it will taste just as it smells. If the smell is too pungent, it may need a cleanup.
for vaping plain old freebase, you can’t beat a cold start with a dab rig. I used a SAI atomizer for the longest time until making changa. Now changa is my preferred method. Having it infused into a leaf helps it not burn too and keeps the taste on point!
I had pretty clean stuff when I tried. STB and washed with soda ash, crystals were just a little off white. Does recrystallization cut down on the naptha smell/taste?
sounds pretty clean then. I’ve just run into some pulls from fattier bark that had a stronger more pungent smell that was remediated by another A/B. In my experience though, MH bark has the least amount of fat and a regular STB works perfectly.
You shouldn’t have a naphtha smell at all if it was purged well enough. Generally air drying is sufficient but I’ve used a vac chamber on some fattier stuff with success. My goal there was to just dry out the goo a bit more, but either way I never have any sign of naphtha to the nose. Maybe the solvent had some impurities that remained in the finished product.

One time I used the rig to dab some concentrates I was previously using for dmt and yeah, I was in for a surprise. As soon as I exhaled I knew that taste should not be there and I should buckle my seat belt quickly.
Didn’t end up being that wild since it was just residue, but if you don’t want any surprises, give it a good cleaning or use a dedicated device.
Yeah alcohol will eventually get it out. I have a kiln so I just run the rig or pipe through another annealing cycle now lol burns it all off and comes out clean as new.
