Harvest season means it’s almost Halloween. I loved Halloween because you could dress up and be anything you want to be. I have seen the Misfits quite a few times live and love scary movies. I know people either love them or hate them, but I even got my wife watching them and she’s a weenie.
What are some good Halloween scary movies with jokes (Evil Dead 2, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Gremlins, Jennifer’s body for example)?
What are some genuinely scary movies (Insidious, The Grudge, Terrifier)?
If you aren’t a film buff, just feel free to chime in with what you love about Halloween!
Cabin in the Woods is always my #1 pick for this category
Hereditary (if you watch it through the mental health lens)
Hereditary (if you watch it through the ‘it’s all real’ lens)
Midsommar
The Blackcoat’s Daughter
Personal recommendations:
YellowBrickRoad. Campy, semi-found-footage film about a town where every citizen simultaneously disappeared during a showing of the Wizard of Oz. Shows its age a bit but is generally very entertaining. (this may just be nostalgia)
Blair Witch Project. The gold standard for found-footage horror.
V/H/S and V/H/S 2. Anthology horror footage
Grave Encounters: probably the most visually terrifying of the bunch.
I’ve always enjoyed Session 9, but find most people haven’t heard of it. Even though the premise might sound cliche, it’s damn good & leans a tad more realistic compared to some of the more supernatural/“monster” focused films.
Most of the movies I really love are either retarded comedy or absolute gore fests with dumb fuck jokes so I’m sure throughout the day i’m gonna keep going ‘OH SHIT! I FORGOT ONE!’
I very very very strongly recommend Cannibal! The musical
i dont really find movies to be all that scary anymore; which sucks because i loved em when i was younger lol
if your going for the best “scare factor” then the best scary movies ive seen have been Japanese or Korean horrors.
the Japanese film Click was insane the first time i watched when i was a teenager. (i was also frying face, so that might of had something to do with it lmao)
when i was living in Korea; Train to Busan just came out and i went to watch it in the theatre; great zombie flick forsure one of my favorites.
American horror has tons of good stuff;
insidious is probably my favorite
The Ring is really really good (the american version is better imo)
Some of my favorites are The Descent, The Shining, Cannibal Holocaust was pretty gory. I thought The Conjuring was one of the better horror movies to come out in a while.
Of course the old school Exorcist, The Omen, Rosemarie’s Baby are particularly scary if one was raised Christian. Even more creepy are the events surrounding rosemaries baby like the murders, divorces, actual place it was filmed… etc.
