Isopentane

So, I spend my extra time these days just reading. Thought that I would finally better myself and learn as much as possible. Ha. Back to the topic, I have yet to come across anyone using isopentane in their process. Granted it does have a higher BP compared to the usual suspects, so terpene loss is a potential problem.
Has anyone here used/experimented with it?

I gave it a bunch of thought.

I ended up just sticking with pentane because there just didn’t seem to be enough reason to switch.

The high vapor pressure means it’s going to evaporate pretty readily, especially if you don’t keep it well chilled. I found freezer temps (-16c) gave me enough of a temperature difference between the ambient temp and boiling point of pentane to make the solvent a bit more manageable in process.

If I was gonna try and save the extra terps, I kinda figured an even lighter hydrocarbon made more sense to use in the end. If you’re gonna go isopentane you might as well just use butane or something.

But I’m neither an expert, nor do I know the intricacies of your process.

Also, it seems hard to find anywhere :man_shrugging:t2:
