Is Green Teflon Thread tape safe for Butane Extraction?

I want to incorporate gauges and PRV into my system. I have white teflon tape at .25 density currently but was looking at higher density tapes. I also noticed that most come with oil/grease for lubrication but I don’t want grease in my final product. Is it safe to use the Green Teflon Tape (oxygen) because it’s higher 1.2-1.5 density and no greese that cause fire? Is there another kind of Teflon thread tape without lubrication? Google says mini monster and Gasoila has grease for lubrication.

Mini monster is the best. I use it often and It definitely is not coated in a grease lubricant. ChatGPT says “Some marketing materials refer to the tape as “high lubricating” or say it “acts as a thread lubricant / anti-seize” in operations, but this seems to describe the functional behavior (i.e. the low friction and sealing benefits) rather than implying an applied grease coating”

it will say on the roll what it is rated for

Can confirm. Have used tons of rolls of different tapes, and the Blue Monster/mini monster is the cock for dolly. Way more on the roll than any other brand and I’ve never had a leak when used properly unlike the thin cheap shit.

I worked in the oil field for years and we never consider tape as a sealant. it was looked at as a lubricant to help replace pipes after years of use. so they don’t corrode together.

we always used paste sealants for any really vac/pressure work.

Very interesting. In my experience, NPT fittings without thread tape definitely leak. NPT fittings with it definitely don’t leak. It’s primarily used as a sealant in for extraction equipment.

we always used paste sealant that matched the application. the tapes do say sealant on some of the types. i only ever heard this from older guys that really knew their stuff.

Thread dope. hard set or soft set..

thread tape or paste sealant best?

When deciding between thread tape and paste sealant, the choice depends on the specific application and the materials involved. Teflon tape is ideal for quick and clean sealing, especially for plastic connections, and is versatile across different pipe materials. It is also effective for air and gas pipe connections.
Pipe dope is a more durable option, suitable for high-pressure applications and metal fittings. It provides a stronger seal and is often used by professionals.
Both sealants are effective in preventing leaks, but the best choice depends on the type of threads, the materials being connected, and the desired level of sealing strength. For most applications, Teflon tape is a reliable and cost-effective solution. However, for more permanent and high-pressure connections, pipe dope is the recommended choice.

PTFE tape was used as thread sealant on the instrument air systems where I was at

Tape sealing has a pressure rating around 5 bar

Paste sealing does not BUT it s fringing hard to find one for the solvent of choice that won t leach I prefure to use both

Tape the end that go s in deepest and seal with paste on the upper part go easy on the paste it works well with yust a bit all other will be pushed out of the treads anyway

The main issue with the paste is you have to heat the parts you want to take appart since it s a mighty strong Gleu

Wich is a delicate job when working on ballvalves since the heat tcan deform the internals as well as on prv s

I’ve never considered tape to be a sealant but rather a lubricant to let you get the NPT threads tighter. Pipe dope serves the same purpose.

As far as which sort to use, I have best luck with the grey kind.

I should also point out i’ve found BOSS fittings to be a generally superior solution… They will hold thousands of PSI easily without any sort of lubricant that might leech…
