I’ve been vaping THC using Vape Cartridges with brands like Raw Garden, Heavy Hitters, Select, ABX & Etc… I Always keep them in my drawer, never throw them away… I had 20ish cartridges… sadly some of them broke 1/2 way point and most of them are nearly empty cartridges… I really wanted to extract all of the THC Distillates (I assume) sticking on the vape cartridges and store it. Hopefully to recover 3-4 grams and use it in edibles, dab it or joint next time. So I was thinking why not buy some Grain Alcohol or Rubbing alcohol or Ethyl Alcohol or Denatured Ethyl Alcohol. (Any alcohol) and open (Clean) all my vape cartridges, put it in a glass bowl, pour the alcohol wash them carefully with chopsticks , take out the vape cartridges shake them dry, throw it away… for the alcohol infused THC in the bowl, I’ll just let them dry and after they dry I’ll just scrape it with spoon or smth and put it in a container… will this work?
I just don’t know which solvent can be used safely and if my procedure is useable…
the main dilemma with that, that I can think of, is that you don’t know what the interior parts of these various carts are made out of. so if there are interior seals that degrade in Etoh then you’re gonna smoke pieces of that seal. for example, viton will degrade in ethanol. I would hope that isn’t the case but all carts are made in China. I would gently, gently heat the oil out into a dish. tedious but more safe.

there’s gonna be a ton of dust and debris in the solution after. I saw it done with a bunch of full ones after the hardware was discovered to be trash. After a few cases you could really see what was going on. Lost of crap sunk to the bottom and the good stuff was siphoned out. I personally wouldn’t recommend. Too dangerous and low quality for no reward. Throw them right in the trash I would buy my own distillate and add terps if I was looking to stretch my dollar
If I was going to do this the way I would try would be with hot cooking oil, a syringe, and a 1 micron syringe filter. Heat up the oil to act as a carrier oil for the distillate and then filter it for any particulate matter.
I cant see how reclaiming this is any harder than reclaiming from a dab rig. Unless im missing something, id open and invert them over a baking sheet and parchment paper, then heat it just enough to get it to flow out. Toaster oven on warm might be enough.
If you use a solvent you will get everything you can see with your eyes in the tank but I think it’s poo poo. If you’re good with it though I’m good with it
I have countless full carts from the dispo that I’ve been saving to hopefully clean and salvage. Cutting agents worry me so have been thinking about this as well. Would it separate or dissolve cutting agents if I add MCT oil for binding?
Why do you say that viton degrades in etho? The charts state excellent compatibility with ethanol with high resistance to permeation. How long did you use yours before you noticed degradation? I am very curious to know. Thanks in advance.
Had to do thousands of reclaim cartridges due to idiotic management/marketing thought they knew better over production for choosing a safer/better cartridge (marketing shit the bed and bought hundreds of thousands of garbage vaporous cartridges that leaked and plugged).
Heavy metal tests came up significantly higher, especially lead. We did pre and post tests to verify the heavy metals were not inherent in the original oil.
I definitely would not recommend soaking cartridges in a solvent and reclaiming the oil.
If you HAVE to reclaim the oil, I recommend strapping them together and flip them upside down in a vacuum oven. Otherwise just call it a loss and move on.
A little late but I would just pour pretty hot water over the mess and stir them around a bit, the important stuff should float to the surface and hopefully any bad crap will settle to the bottom and precipitate out. I have done this by accident a few times lol.
