So, I’m maybe shooting for a weird niche. But I’m angling to have my own craft grow soon, and there’s plenty of high thc stuff available everywhere.
I wanted to reach a broader audience. I’ve got a ton of elderly people in my area. I was thinking of growing something that just… Doesn’t get people too high lol. I think there’s a bit of an unsaturated market in nice looking weed that “boomers” would identify with… Something that feels “like the stuff they had in the 60s”.
I figured a 15-16% TAC with maybe 3:1 CBD to thc or maybe a 4:1. Looking for something with great nose and grow appeal. But allows for someone to… Do stuff.
If you want something from the 80’s/90’s that isn’t too strong, but is still around, check out Double Durban (Durban Poison) from Twenty 20 Mendocino or Indiana Bubblegum from Serious Seeds. It’s memorable for a lot of people from when I started growing back then.
My go-to has been Gorilla Glue #4 (Original Glue) in the surrounding Chicago area for the last ~6 years years. It is usually high 20%. I have been leaning more towards Third Coast genetics or FatCat Labs lately, which is super crafty looks, flavors, and smells.
This was basically what I was looking for my entire life. Age 15 ~ started getting too paranoid to smoke normal weed. Some batches were ok, some would make me cry in the shower for an hour. It was never worth the gamble to just smoke random stuff unless I was in bed with like 3 women or something. Then my mind couldn’t wander at all.
I remember taking the gamble on night after going out. Smoked, relaxed and felt that amazing warm body feeling that I was always looking for. The only problem was I had no idea who the guy was who had it, and what strain it was. Sent me on a long journey of growing and trying to figure out how the hell to get something low thc/high cbd that wouldn’t freak me the hell out.
Definitely a market here. If you could get something that had that warm body feel without the crazy head high you would definitely have customers. Pretty sure that’s what most older school adults are looking for. Strain wise probably anything with a high cbd ratio. Not sure the truth but i’ve also heard a later in harvest chop also produces these effects. I love the idea, definitely keep us updated.
I’ve got a few 1:1 genetics that are fantastic. They are dense, super nose, tasty and all my older peeps swear by it. It’s that late 70s early 80s herb. Got em from Eric at HBK genetics. Eric also bred Chile Verde. Pretty unique cultivar.
I would never have bought this strain, but I got it as a freebie seed and ended up loving it as a daytime smoke. They claim 27% but I think it is a little lower. It has afghani skunk in the lineage and smells like lemons, reminds me of mazar that I had long ago. The buzz has some kind of happy chemical aspect to it, reminds me of scoring good weed in the late 90s. Huge buds and yield, too. I didnt keep the mother but will probably order more seed. (Sorry if I sound like spam, I just like this weed)
If you’re talking 1:1 CBD:THC, we’ve done Sweet Annie from Humboldt Seed Company and Pennywise from TGA. Both were heavy yielders and had loud terps.
EDIT: I think the Sweet Annie had syrupy sweet grape terps (super delicious!) and the Pennywise had lemon spicy terps. Older folks who like to puff, but don’t like to get blasted loved them.
We all have to start somewhere. You should do it. Real craft cannabis will end up being more intense blends of cannabinoids and other compounds I believe.
