I am following the procedure that Dred_pirate posted and has been two days. I will post final pics but thought I would show progress. 12” diamond miner maintaining 15 psi @ room temp. The jar tech picture is from the same run just a different fraction.
Thats impressive to say the least…
@Dred_pirate so would it work if you were to collect multiple runs over the course of the day in order to get a high saturation. I only have a 2# CLS so I feel if I “stack them” in the jar at end of day im reaching high enough saturation point?
I do get great formations but more small stones and sand mixed, but to get solid facets would the above method work better?
You could absolutely do that.
I have a question that I did not see asked or spoken about. If you are going to crash a diamond miner will it freeze the vacuum gauge? Should you crash in a regular freezer or should it go into an alcohol/dry-ice bath to the top of the miner? Any info would be great.
I came to this forum a couple of months ago wanting to learn more about diamond miners. I have been so caught up in reading posts and learning different techniques and styles of other things that I just now happened to stumble onto this thread. The previous reading was not wasted time as it has enabled me to significantly step up my game as far as end product extraction goes. After reading this whole thread, I came away with a couple of really interesting informative SOP’s. Next step… keep researching and reading… then grow a pair
and give it a shot.
Edit: I forgot to say THANKS!!
Done guages are rated for cold temperatures and won’t be effected by the temperature swings.
Swagelok is your best bet for guages.
Thank you. I did my first run. Not 100% sure I did it correctly. Only time will tell. Might be to thick the pressure is not getting above 10psi. let it cold crash for about 12 hrs she was liquid when I pulled it out with neg pressure. Temp is 70 with 10psi. I hope it turns out.
May have been too thick. Mine was giving off nearly 20 @ 65f. Was it a big run and you filled it up, or did the pour not fill the miner to about the 80% range.
Good call Sir. So I think that is the problem I may have filled it to high. I based my pour off of what my miner says it could hold ( the Chef in me coming out) which is 250 gram. Im betting 80ish% filled. Can I correct this? Release pressure pour some off? Currently temp is 70ish and about 15psi.
Oohhh. No site glass?
Get your next one from @Killa12345.
Pouring too much, as long as it’s not under saturated, you can just keep venting until you get to where you want. If it’s sorta full and it was pretty think. Cold crash probably won’t work the same way, that has to be extremely saturated, compared to room temp and above. But, being “thick”, as we’ll call it, it may still work. I’ve had it happen.
There’s a lot of variables that can change the outcome. If you poured too thick. You can pour some out and do something else with it. Then re-saturate and start over.
I just peeked at it and it is runny @ 70 degrees. I was hoping this would teach me enough to move to jars as this is really just for me as I only have a 2.5 lb machine. Although there is no site glass the center is glass so I just cant see the bottom of the miner. The material I used was not the absolute best for sure but I was hoping to get a practice run in before outside harvest and I did a bud run. The run was close trim its a tad dark but it makes nice shatter so I assumed it would at least make sugar diamonds.
Heres an off-topic question maybe I can get some help with. Do people use the de-waxer column with Alcohol and dry ice or just dry ice? There is still a slight bend to my shatter, I freeze everything. My solvent, my column both sit in the freezer for 36 hrs. Doing this I have had a hard time getting solvent to drop as I can never get my collection base (cant get it colder than 30 degrees with a saltwater brine) cold enough for the solvent to drop with a Nitro push and re-vacing my column so if I was to use alcohol It would be a challenge to get solvent to drop into my collection vessel but I feel as if I could get just a bit colder I would get a complete snap.
Alcohol and dry ice.
Your having problems with your solvent moving into the pot most likely because your dewax sleeve is colder than it is. Solvent wants to move to the coldest place.
Stick your collection pot in some dry ice too and things should move around easier.
Learned a trick on here for not-quite shatter: heat up one side of it until it’s pretty runny with a heat gun. Might take more heat than you think but remove the heat gun if you see decarb bubbles. Let it cool completely. Once cold it may shatter better.
This technique moves the THCA in the shatter into the glass transition temp, which is very brittle when cold (RT)
yeah that could be a problem! As you can see from my collectionvessel. This has a jacketed sleeve with a SS coil that runs around the inside. The problem is there is no pump under 10k that can push -30+ liquidthrough it. So I can only drop in to about 30 with a salt ice water surry. A chiller would still only bring it down to -8ish from my understanding. So I think no matter what I do unless dropping that monster in a trash can full of dry ice, which is another problem as the closest place that sells dry ice is 1.5 hrs away at 3.00 a lb.
Lol. So we make our own but doing that would literally add 400.00 a run as it takes a 50lb cylinder just to make 4.5 kills of dry ice. So pushing with nitro is currently my only opinionI feel.
As you can see from the collection vessel whoever put it together did not do a good job. Note how one side is dripping in sweat the other not so much. Shows my the tubing inside is not set up correctly.
Holy shit, dry ice is super expensive where you are! I thought it was bad where I am at 2 bucks a pound. Are you in a rural area and that is why dry ice is so far away?
I had a hard time finding any near me until I found out some florists carry it. Now it’s a 5 minute drive.
You’re probably right with the n2 being your best option though if dry ice isn’t easy or cheap to get.
