Is there a discernible difference between Heptane and n-Heptane? Generally, pure N-heptane is only necessary in pharmaceutical and scientific laboratories. Those industries require precise identification of chemicals and rigid control of all chemical variables. Do the variables in extraction perform better with n-Heptane or can a less expensive Heptane be used?
N heptane if derrived correctly is a isolated version of heptane without isomers or nearly no raycemic molecules.
Heptane as regular batch also refered to as heptanes is a mixture also related to spirits for thinning. It is n heptane and mixture or heptane isomers as well as who knows what off the tap generally when distilling and refining heptane(s) from a refinery it’s sorta mixed.
I never knew that. Thank You.
Are there any discernible benefits to use the more expensive n-Heptane?
From what I’ve been able to tell the biggest difference is that the lower quality heptane will smell like sharpies (acetone?). The smell will stay in your crude but is pretty easily removed by distillation.
Oof. I’m reading now about what actually causes the smell in sharpies. Xylene is one of the top choices along with some alcohols and acetone-like compounds
We just had an issue where we found Toluene in the heptane we were using. It seems that all chemical providers are different as the stuff we use from a different distributed/ state did not have any of that. In the future we will be using N-heptane strictly unless familiar with the supplier.
Heptane boiling point is 99c while toluene is about 110c so post roto the smell is still there, but like mentioned above seems to be cut out in distillation.
I scoured the web and could not find the info that @spdking just shared. Thank you good sir.
Depends on what your using it for…
You huffing sharpies again?
says CDA-12 can be formulated with Toluene or heptanes. So yeah, make sure you know what you’re getting. Or skip the denaturant and use straight EtOH.
Yea it fucked up. Cheaper paint thinner basically. The people who sell that should be ashamed for saving fourty bucks on a sale while knowing the whole time. It’s hard to mess up. Chemical companies ship exact things bc thier licenses are held ransom if they fuck up.
converting cbd to thc… just guesing
Yes, but which thc. If you’re going for D9 then N-heptane is necessary. If you are doing D8 then it’s still a good idea, but it’s more doable even using reg heptane.
n-Hexaan ≥99 %, for synthesis is the way for d9 then>? cleaner and better
I doubt hexane is “cleaner” choice and may cause cancer…make sure its all out. I know nothing about cbd but I know n heptane is better than hexane
Bvv use to have some decent priced gallons n heptane
@trustlevel3 is there anyone selling it cheaper
Most company’s I deal with uses N-Heptane, even when they buy CDA-12A. N-Heptane is the purest form of the two.
