All of the SOPs I’ve come across for running standard silica columns use either pentane or hexane as the main liquid phase- why is heptane not used? I’ve been told it acts “funky” but I’m trying to get a better understanding of why

High boiling point and it’s a strong non-polar so it will elute indiscriminately
