Last week, the State Police liquidated the laboratory on the side of AlĆ«ksne and removed the largest load of synthetic drugs in recent years - more than one ton of finished products, 38,000 liters of various chemical liquids intended for the production of narcotic substances, as well as laboratory equipment, State Police officials informed at the press conference. Among the detainees aged between 24 and 35, five are Ukrainian citizens, two are Polish citizens and one is an Armenian citizen. At the moment, six persons have been given a security measure - detention. The value of the narcotic substances is estimated to be at least 400 million euros, according to the State Police officials. The seized drug is the so-called âhappy drugâ used by people in discotheques. As the police say in a press release, criminal procedural actions took place simultaneously in several Latvian cities, including seven searches. The police emphasize that this is one of the largest drug seizures in recent years. In general, shakedowns have been removed: more than a ton of finished products â the synthetic drug clephedrone; more than 38,000 liters of different chemical liquids, which according to experts are precursors or basic substances for the production of synthetic narcotics; laboratory equipment and various items related to the production of narcotic substances; Five cars â three cars and two trucks; several mobile phones, SIM cards, routers, a laptop and other items relevant to the investigation. At the same time, expert examinations are still ongoing to determine the exact weight and composition of the removed substances. The narcotic substances were not intended for the Latvian market, but probably for other European countries, such as Scandinavia, as well as for the market of Russia and Belarus. The âstreet valueâ of one gram of such drugs is approximately 20-25 euros. The operation was implemented in close cooperation with Europol. Their representative was not only present in Latvia during the operation, but also provided invaluable analytical and operational support in the investigation. This criminal offense is investigated in the criminal proceedings initiated according to the third part of Article 253.1 of the Criminal Law - for the unauthorized manufacture, purchase, storage, transportation of narcotic and psychotropic substances for the purpose of sale, if it was committed by an organized group. The State Police reminds that no person is considered guilty until his guilt in committing a criminal offense is proven in accordance with the procedures prescribed by law.
