First of all I believe this was started without him asking… but furthermore, 20k is not really that much. When you consider one, deductible could be like $8000. And then also the lost income associated with being out of work for 2 months.

My last car accident cost me $87k with car insurance and ppo health insurance.
Insurance tried to give me $8k. It took 5 years to have those bills paid off from my accident.
I had exhausted my car insurance policy within 45 mins of being in the hospital.

Do you know plenty of folks that have had life altering car accidents ? Not just “car accidents” where they could work working 2 weeks afterwards. Like cmon, yeah his insurance may help with a new car & depending on his policy up to 3/4 of his hospital bills if that. Even government insurance for first responders don’t give you a full coverage. I had a friend that was in a accident that basically left him with brain damage & he was almost paralyzed going through the windshield. He had to go to a special rehab in Colorado, insurance would have never been close to covering it. His family had to go stay with him, so they needed help with bills, mortgage, food, life in general. Nothings free you’ll always have to pay.
But can we now get back to the positive side?

im assuming you never got into a really bad car accident with a several day or weeks stay…
My car accident policy was for 250k and hers was for the same 250K
just the iniital surgury and hospital pay was 87k. i had to see a phyical therapist for 2 hours a day/ 5 days a week for months to be able to move… a neroligist for almost a year to figure out why i couldnt talk anymore…
after all the bills and lawyers i got a measly settlement cause most of the money from 500k worth of car insurance was spent…
AND I HAD FUCKING HEALTH INSURANCE… which only paid for 10 pt visits…10 nerologist visits… the rest was on me and wasnt cheap…
I have mild brain damage now from the accident and a bum arm… id pay 500k to just have my health back! your outta line bro!

This ignorant mentality is plaguing society currently. This guy is mad that no one has ever done anything nice for him so kindness and empathy is probably some fairytale to him.
People don’t want to raise minimum wage because they worked for a shitty wage, people don’t want to erase college debt because they had to scrimp and save to pay theirs, people don’t want to give away free healthcare because theirs was deducted from every pay check.
I wonder if these people even have the mental acuity to place themselves in another’s position and ask themselves what it would be like if they were that person and how they might like to be treated. It’s usually”my life sucked and fuck everyone else for trying to escape the misery that is my every day reality.”

That sounds like a rare exception. Every car accident I’ve heard of the victim is eventually compensated for their medical Bill’s and most I’ve seen have given the victim a nice payout as well. I would guess this is the case in 90% of accidents the exception being sometimes people have no insurance or are underinsured in that case you may not recoup and crowd sourcing would be a great idea. Don’t get me wrong if people have extra cash they want to donate I think that is very nice and sure it will be used better than alot of charity out there .
