To make a long story short I decided to try my hand at making my own carts using decarbed THCA and CBD isolate with some terps;
The mistakes began immediately: I mixed the CBD and THCA isolates together(in the right ratio at least lol) in the jar prior to heating instead of heating and mixing them separate.
Then I didn’t have a hotplate so I used a very shitty double boiler setup, wherein I practically cooked the shit for way too long…
And the lid of the jar warped a bit from the heat of the steam and I am kind of wondering if steam got in the jar?
In any case it came out looking badder-y but gold, so I figured ‘maybe I can try redoing it at the right temperature this time’ so I stuck it in the oven, thank God the glass was tempered…
So at the end of this clusterfuck or a process, I got the heated mix out, put terps in and… it recrystallized.
So I heated it a third time, then put even more terps in, and then mixed in some distillate that was from a pre-filled syringe I bought.
I look at the cart and… yeah I don’t think I should vape this lol.
Anywho, I also had a jar of CBD isolate that was left over, and out of curiosity I stuck that in the oven and it melted into gold-liquid perfectly fine. Probably because I was more gentle getting it up to the correct temperature and didn’t leave it on for like 45 minutes three times, so I dunno
I put 2g THCA isolate with 1g CBD isolate in the jar, and neglected to mention that I added an extra gram of CBD to it to on around the third run see if I could get it to be runnier that way(kinda helped);
So it was 33% or so CBD(a lot but whatever, ‘I just want to see if I could make something smokable’ was the drive, not ‘I wanna make an ubercart’)
The murkiness/white specks were there prior to adding the extra gram of CBD to make the ratio 50/50 though.
There’s also now the extra shit from the pre-filled distillate syringe I poured in too so I dunno now really.
I do think it is just unmelted CBD from the first gram I put in though, just not too sure.
The few hits I’ve been brave enough to try(I know I am being stupid) have gotten me very very… Mmm though.
It’s really weird how when I heated 1G of the same CBD Isolate separately, it came out clear/looking as I would expect, but when I heated the combined isolates it looks like the CBD didn’t fully melt… And I swear I blasted the shit out of it with heat(I had no idea what I was doing or looking for lol; I think I might have even made CBN?)
CBD will just crystallize in a cart again. Most labs will make a crystal-resistant CBD distillate that we’d typically use in carts. THCA on the other hand, once fully decarbed, should be okay. That being said, “hemp derived” conversion liters are going to cost you ALOT less to get the same exact result as “melted diamonds”
