winterize first. then do your medias, followed by dgum last; and if want another winterize to collect anything the gums disassociate

If ur gonna dgum, why not always have it followed up by a winterization? I see that u said if u want. But curious, what situations wouldnt u need to? I feel like a dgum is gonna get fats out, why risk codistilling them by leaving them in sometimes?

Tbh, it’s a time thing for me. I feel that wintering once is enough. I haven’t had any issues so far. My new filtering techniques have allowed for a faster filtration doing the bento first and carbon/ t41 after. Honestly I’m on the fence of continuing hot scrubbing as I got real good results cold scrubbing with carbon/ t41. This next run will be the deciding factor. I got gold first passes using good trim and cold scrubs. So I haven’t decided yet. Filtering the carbon through alumina, celite and silica went real fast aswell. And I’ve remedied the particulates left behind by using two 4" caps with a mesh screen and a 0.45 micron filter sandwiched between.

Degumming process was designed to make the phospholipids water soluble, I’m not so sure that it causes more waxes to precipitate from the solution when freezing though.

The water in the 190 proof etho pulls those compounds out and they solidify when winterizing. So if you haven’t winterized by then it stands to reason the fats do the same as they haven’t been removed yet.

What’s a cold scrub? Diluted with solvent and agitated, then filtered out? At room temp or u going colder?

Cold scrub is directly from extraction through my 240 mm buchner at -25cish. I used to layer all my media and do one run, then try to filter out particulates, but my 2-3 micron filter always let some slip past. Now I do the bento first and I’m figuring out the others too. I’ve had success with bento, celite and t41 first, then celite and carbon as a second filter right after. Added alumina and silica aswell now. So I might do bento, celite and t41 followed by celite, alumina, carbon and silica. I’ll keep you guys posted.

Oh gotcha. I’ve got an old 6" column sitting around thinking about turning that into a CRC column, do u guys know how much volume these powders are taking up, once hydrated?
Also whenever I use T5 is slows it down so much, like pain fully slow, is there a way around it? I see people saying their using it, but are they just dealing with the slower speed?

So, how much t5 are you using and how thick is the cake? As mentioned above I’ve had success with 150g bento, 100g celite and 50g t41. With my 240mm buchner I had a virtual waterfall dumping into my 5 gal collection pot. I posted that on my insta. I’ll dm you my name so you can check it out if you want.

This last filter I used 400g bento and 300g bento for the 2 separate runs and 5 gal was done within an hour. Didn’t time it though.

It took atleast 150g to cover the bottom of my 10.5" buchner and it was maybe only 1/2" thick.
Isnt bento a cheap t5?

No, hehehe, t5 is bento. It’s just what carbon chemistry calls it. You have a table top buchner? What size is the drain port? That’s prob your bottle neck.

I dont think it’s the drain port, I had the same issues on the chromatagpry column, and both have open space below the filter plate for suction to happen, the liquid is evacuated from the bottom as soon as it gets there.
I thought t5 was bento, but I saw u changed ur terminology so I thought it was a cheaper grade, like magnesol to magsil

Yeah, I flip flop between them cause I got people asking what t5 was.

What sized filter paper are you using? I have had success prefiltering with a 6 micron paper before doing any media. I think that could maybe help you too. I then use a 25 micron paper under the bento. Maybe try celite on top of the bento?

I need to get back to fixing my pandas, I’ll come check on this in a minute.

Not all bentos are the same
T5 and b80 realy differ from the beauty salon bento or healt shop

Hmm, ok. Tbh, I only know of the bento we use. I haven’t actually looked at other bentos. My homie who started running a hemp farm dumped 200lbs or so into their pond for water retention. That was the first I heard of its use outside of how we use it.

On another note damn the pandas, they weren’t as easy to fix as I thought and will take a while for the ptfe seal and other compounds to settle. Gonna start faffing with the washing machine instead.

You should realy get your hands on oil dry b 80 that stuff is wicked
And cheap a pallet 1200kg is around 800$

What’s the main difference between t5 and b80? I emptied my buchner now and saw that the alumina had turned brown, so it did catch color. I’m gonna use more than 165g/10% next time. The silica stayed white as snow.

Edit: holy fuck b80 is cheap. The shipping is 4x the cost of the clay, err mah geeeerd. 50 lbs bag to go. Insane. I guess I know what to get the next time then.

B80 is a naturally occurring product, it requires no activation because it is active when mined. It doesnt require any activation to work as a bleaching earth but it doesnt have the sorptive capacity t-5 does. T-5 has been refined and acid activated.
