Has anyone used Duratherm XLT-2 in Huber Chillers? Looking for a cheaper alternative to the DW-Therm
Extremely bad idea to poll people on here for the compatibility of HTF with your Unistat. Call Huber and ask what the fluid compatibilities are. The product you listed is a hydrocarbon fluid, usually ultra low fluids are silicone fluids. You want to ensure the hydraulic or fluid path has no elastomers that would be damaged or swell from contact with that fluid across the entire temperature range. Call Huber, or email and send the SDS. Another factor is viscosity and temperature, advanced TCUs have programmable fluids so the pump knows what to do at what temperature or rather what viscosity to expect. These are usually set on setup. Putting another random fluid in the chiller with different properties could lead to unnecessary wear on the pump.
@huber_king_of_temp? (hasn’t stopped by in a couple of years…might get/respond to an email notification?).
Thanks for your response. These are all factors that I considered and discussed with both Huber and the fluid manufacturer. However, Huber won’t recommend any fluid they don’t sell regardless of compatibility. They will tell you though if they have seen other customers use that fluid successfully which they have. In my conversations with Huber and Duratherm all of the biggest concerns were ruled out. I was just hoping to hear from someone with personal experience who doesn’t have financial stake in which fluid is purchased.
We have a lot of customers that use syltherm XLT for very low temp chillers. I don’t know if they use it for that specific model though.
You can always ask Huber for a sds on the fluid they recommend and confirm the other fluid you want to use is the same. In rare cases the chiller manufacturer sells a proprietary fluid, but in most cases it’s just rebranded fluid. IMO the practice of rebranding the fluid, charging a 3-4x markup, then forcing customers to use it by threatening to void their warranty is not a good look. The customer feels strong armed and it doesn’t inspire confidence that it won’t happen again
