Anyone ever perform an LLE where the two solvents are at different temperatures? Is this feasible?
What are you trying to achieve? Obviously there is heat transfer involved. I imagine you could feed them at significantly different temperatures into a centrifugal separation, and maybe they’ll still exit at different temperatures from one another.
Cold non polar against hot polar
Are you trying to precipitate something?
Always
Describe two solvents at two temps…
Aside from boiling the organic layer and making lots of dangerous fumes (I’m assuming the non polar layer is low boiling point and flammable) there’s no reason not to try. Might make some emulsion but maybe not
I’d be interested in how this turns out.
Nothing that a condenser/reflux can’t handle
True true, if you use a closed system it’s NBD for sure
just use a jacketed stainless collection vessel. lots of flexibility and durability.
For liquid/liquid having visual of the liquid is very useful. Unless you want to pressurize the tank a lot I’d go with glass ideally, or if absolutely necessary, a solvent compatible plastic
