Does your rig change how your oil tastes? What y’all smokin outta?

Curious on what everyone’s daily driver is in regards to dab rigs/nails? I often find myself in conversations with people about how some concentrates seem to give better taste off different rigs/surfaces. For example certain oils may taste better when dabbed off quarts vs ceramic. Or when dabbed out of a rig vs out of a wax pen. I’ll have some stuff that’s way better when dabbed off Quartz but then others that seem to give off way more flavor when dabbed off silicon carbide. Anyone else notice this?

Also I’m a huge glass addict so please post photos of your rigs if possible! I wanna see the goods!

This is the circle i have traveled in.
E-nails : they work well and are convenient, you have to keep them clean to taste good.Eventually the part where the enail meets the glass accumulates reclaim oil and it degrades there eventually ruining the flavor.I have found connecting a glass banger to an enail is a loosing proposition as well, the extra stress from the cord eventually breaks it.

heated nails/ bangers: tend to be more portable and have great flavor, downside is heating the thing constantly. If you keep them clean and pair them with a good carb cap they are the best for flavor imo.

Volcano vape: Easy to use, take a few min to heat up before it can blow up a bag, not very portable. Flavor is good the first bag, but quickly diminishes toward the second bag.As the turkey bag gets used for several days it picks up all the off flavors of vaping herb, the “good” flavor expectancy is about 2 days from a bag depending on your mileage. The vapor can have particulate matter in it, I rigged the mouthpiece to a bong to aid in filtering the vapor.
Personally I came back to the low temp dabs on a traditional banger in a small rig.

pretty much sums up my experiences too. Nowdays it’s the HE Ti nail with a flat coil e-nail for daytime dabs on a medium sized rig. Evenings are spent with raw flower in the volcano, and dabs are done with a torch / quartz banger on a small rig. I personally like to cold start on quartz, so much better flavor there that dropping it in hot, and it’s much easier to tell your temps.

I prefer a torch and nail. I go in and out of using a knockoff quartz banger. Currently been favoring a highly educated tx2 with matching cap attached to a medium sized manifest glass works tube with a diffy cap and cirq perk. Nice low resistance smooth draw.

Great write up about the volcano. I’d like to add to it by noting how easy it is to overload the concentrate pad, which can transfer a circle stain onto whatever you put the chamber down on.

As far as electricity powered dabs, I prefer the pax 3 with the concentrate chamber over my volcano (also been using the pax more than my volcano for flowers lately also) I find the flavor through the pax is amazing. The trade off is that while hot and filled with concentrates you must hold the unit straight up and down, or the design of the concentrate chamber will spill through the air holes and make a mess and require heating to pull the chamber out. the flavor setting allows rapid heating during inhale, and rapid cooling when you are not taking a draw. Took me a few bowls to get the hang of how to hit it (more like taking small sips rather than inhaling)

Storz & Bickel just released the volcano hybrid.

I don’t like vapor after it has been in the bag a couple minutes. Starts to burn my throat.

I prefer the S&B Mighty.

I was going to bring this up. Has anyone seen/used one? Personally I don’t see the appeal of using a volcano with a leash

Edit: I also own one with a knob because I didn’t see value in the digital for the price difference. (Though one of my favorite features of the pax 3 is tuning temperatures and heating behavior on my phone, so the idea of a phone app for my volcano does entice me

I’v been mulling over the cold start for a few months now.

Cold start technique

The gavel is my porn currently, but 300 for the setup is low on the list. I’m about to go grab a knockoff to try this.

The big problem I’ve always had with enails is that you don’t have the diminishing heat like you do when using a torch. This constant heat will eventually over heat the dab. This means that you have to time your draw so that you stop inhaling before the dab starts to burn. Also this means that if you want to keep your nail clean you have to be pretty quick with a qtip before it starts chazzing the nail and even then if you aren’t using something like DC clear then the little bit of oil after the qtip usually burns on the nail.

I keep going back to my good ole Mothership rig with either one of their xl pots with a quartz swing, or more recently a banger for cold starts. Eternal makes some great quartz that allow for super low dab temps.

you can try the cold start on any nail with a carb cap

Low temp dabs off quartz enail. Titanium dabs taste the worst to me. I choose small rigs for dabs. I feel its a better dab

That’s funny I was just yesterday talking about getting an enail to try because I dislike the smell of butane from the torch and everything but they sound like more of a PITA than anything else… Something the old lady mentioned was that it would no longer be water filtered…

Enail over torch all day. Can choose whatever temp you’re comfortable with. Just clean with a q tip and no problem.

Torch and Banger . Torch till red hot and wait 30-45 seconds before dropping a fat one.

Honestly if you have a rig that is claimed up for more than a week of straight dabbing/dosing, you should clean with 190proof and store in a jar/glass container in a freezer for future postprocessing.

Current goal is a gallon.

A.C. and 5 micron filtration is needed for claim to detox.*

damnit! that’s just what I want, but I bought the digital one a couple years ago :frowning:

The bags are cool, but they get annoying and make too much noise

have you been able to make reclaim actually taste half good again? I used to save mine but after trying everything under the sun to make it taste half decent, it still tasted like shit and ruined any edibles I put it in. They sent my friends to the moon though on half a chocolate… I would eat 5 and barely feel anything so I just dump it down the drain now.

I’ve been through every fad & I still go back to the trusty torch & quartz. Cold starts for the win! Gotta keep em clean!

Even though I’ve gone through my e-nail stage, I have found the Puffco Peak to great for traveling. Definitely not a replacement for the a torch & nail, but a well suited alternative. No searching for butane once you land, mom asking you ‘what’s that for,’ or as one of my friends describes, you won’t catch your seat on fire while you’re driving.’ True story

Check out freenail710 on insta… solves your enail problems

The smell which has been described as old man shoe definitely gets remediated with a.c. . as for color and taste honestly its not that bad, definitely gotta scrub it and fine filter it for anything remotely good.

I change the water in my rig every 5-6 hits. You can definitely taste the terps in the water after a few dabs. But as far a nail this is my daily driver 100% for the last 2 years solid. E. Ross 4.0 quartz e banger. The coil wraps underneath the banger so the heat is even throughout like a normal torch heated banger. That coupled with a spinner cap and ruby and I have never gotten a better taste off of anyone of my friends nails. I have the banger on my Pyroglyphics Tinko. It’s basically a straight fab torus.

I had no idea you could cool an enail with water… I haven’t been into a head shop in a long time so I guess I’m missing out on the new latest and greatest.

Where do you guys go online to get really good percolators or oil rigs?? I was looking and I keep finding junk.
