Diy rosin press

How thick are the plates you had machined?

Mind sharing some pics if they’re handy?

I’ll still probably go with a pre-built plate set, but it’s always neat to see other people’s stuff they built.

Man, I have nothing but respect for people who’ve put in lots of time and effort to perfect their craft its just anyone that’s going out to start shit especially with nice dudes like you obviously haven’t - otherwise it’d be a basis for collaboration, not shit talk. Eventually the paths of solvents AND rosin will cross eventually so there’s no reason for the dumbest turf war in the world by dudes like that.

Haha if u had a really really big press, why not, i believe the math to the rosin plate is 400 psi per sq inch needed for a good squish. Only count squishing size not whole plate size when determining pressure load needed.
Ive seen some 100 ton presses before (not rosin presses)

Oh you can go through my posts here and see I’m not above it lol. But in all honesty, it’s not a good look to start shit constantly and I’m trying to do better.

It’s just arguing for the sake of it, it’s a waste of time, especially when there’s stuff to learn.

That was a question I meant to ask, so you calculate the pressures based off of the sq inches of your bag?

So say a 3x4 bag is 12sq, for 400psi on the whole bag you’d need a press that does a minimum of 4800psi right? (4x3)x400?

Correct :+1: that is obviously just recommended each strain presses different.
This is all i can find rn

I think plates were 1" or 1¼" thick
Control board was diy aswell, just some simple PID controllers.
But basically just get a screw thread on the top so u can anchor in the plate to ur press shaft.
Then connect all your heat carts (on one plate) to the same power. Mine had 4 heat carts per plate. Two holes that went all the way thru, and carts touched in the middle.
I was gonna program the front heat carts to heat up an extra 5F on initial press to direct flow better but never got to adding a raspberry pi to it. The idea would be an array of heat carts that can be powered like a wave to push out the rosin by heat cycling thru

Oh for sure, I just used that number as an example.

Man, you guys are awesome, I’ve got a ton of information tonight. I’m definitely on my way to getting started correctly.

I know I need to look into bags and pre pressing. It’s been mentioned earlier, but I’m still getting the basics in my head.

Using bags is quickest and easiest for small production.
I was kiefing trim, and pressing kief for production, i think we could squish like 4lbs of kief a day when i was at full production. Two man job.

Look into elysian research for the chemex filter paper tek that i mentioned above, its the best hybrid tek for production imo.

For small runs/quality use a new bag everytime.

lmao it might be badass :man_shrugging: yessir surface area of the puck influences what psi you press at so you’d just have to size the press accordingly

and i 2nd that. pressing kief is definitely the most productive just has to be very good material

i could do 10lbs of bud a day but that was for decarbed rosin syringes so i could go hotter on the press

Yeah, this would be a smaller setup. I’d say no more than a 1/2# at time at most. I’d probably use new bags every time.

That’d be neat to see a 3ft long squish lol

Prices of bags have gone down tremendously since the rosin bubble of 2016-2018, only thing i didnt like about them back then is hardly anyone did a tremendous stitch job it was always B grade. Probably way better now

You could eat a raw onion, dab it and taste that shit for 5 hrs after

Setting up a custom controller (pid, arduino, etc) would be a cheap way to go once you are set on plate size. If you can get by on a cage(or something to align the plates) and harbor freight 12 or 20 ton jack that would be my recommendation. For a personal setup I use a hf 12 ton with dulytek 3x6 cage. I wanted tighter temp control and pressure monitoring so I setup an arduino to replace the original controller and added a 5T load cell to avoid having to screw with hydraulics; something like this:

Happy to provide source and info if you (or anyone) want to go down the custom controller path.

You sound mad brah, jelly of my Christmas plans?

Since you don’t realize the paths of solvents and rosin have already passed… pssst… terps are solvents… so is water

Also, what turf war? They have their own places

Clown numba 2!

the press club bags on amazon are the shit. they dont stretch or tear

@SubstituteCreature that stuff looks great. did it butter?

@dp621 can you post the controllers? and do you know how to program them? or are these pre programmed

What’s the budget? I’ve built and helped others build many. I still prefer my sub $600 setup to most.
Caged plates are crucial imo.
H frame 20ton harbor freight or 10 ton name brand
If you want table top you might as well buy from an american builder.
Cheap but work well = dulytek (buy off Amazon for double protection and ability to get a faster replacement if anything is wrong) (I had a pid go out first one and it swapped out so fast I had so little down time)
Tons of brands you can go with that are more expensive.

Longer less wide plate kits are better. 2-3x5-7 is common.
Gauges are helpful but not necessary when you do enough squishing you get to know your press so to speak.

Are you aiming for bubble squishing? Sift pressing,? (I hope) or Trim / flower pressing?

You don’t need a lot of pressure for bubble. It helps for separating thca nicely and cleanup. I don’t recommend flower pressing these days.

It pressed out dead ass clear with like a grayish tint at 160 and like within 20 mins of the wine fridge it was totally opaque, it kicked ass!

Did you guys hear something? I don’t speak bitch so i don’t know when someone with that dialect is trying to communicate with me, I’m trying to keep this thread on point for our buddy here

The only flower thats gonna press well, is flower that should be smoked or sold as flower haha or else ur just throwing away half the “value” by pressing it. True heady flower rosin should fetch 40+/g but no one is fractional pressing and selling lots, its more hobby size market.
U can actually squish then repress that and seperate the terps out first with a very delicate squish then the fats come out after, dicard those and reuntroduce the first terp pull to the cleaned up thca fraction

It’ll be good flower, well I think its good anyways haha.
