distilling d8 oil converted from crude

Has anyone distilled a hemp crude that has been converted to d8 from cbd? Oil is a dark color still, assuming distillation would remove pigments? Color remediation with filter media a better move? Oil is a d9 type of texture, very nice, but would further processing get a nice clear/pale yellow color? Or would it be better to start isomerizing from isolate?

The ∆8-THC was already present in the crude? Amy idea why the crude processor is doing that? Did you end up with it by mistake, expecting CBD?

Crude oil tends to be dark and a distillation tends to produce a clear, golden, or amber/reddish distillate (many factors involved in that)

the oil is a converted hemp crude- cbd to d8. The processor is selling d8- I bought d8 on purpose

Never heard of people isomerizing crude, did it come with a lab test? Usually this reaction is done in a boiling flask under vacuum with magic dirt…

Very interesting, from what I’ve read you get higher conversion rates from isolate and little lower on distillate.

I’m curious to what conversion rate was achieved by starting with cbd crude. Also wondering if whatever was used to convert could still be in the crude and might need to be filtered out before distilling.

Do you have any coa for this cbd/d8 crude?

I would imagine it could be as simple as distilling it to get better color but azulene could be an issue and sometimes difficult to fraction off.

negative on COA- I asked questions once I received the sample, I’ll update upon receiving answers. Label claims 85-90% D8 and 3-8% D9…color is typical of hemp crude…I was expecting a clear/pale oil, so the assumption is that it has not been distilled

no COA, questioning the seller on where this oil was derived, why the dark amber color- once can only assume it’s not been distilled and possibly isomerized as a crude oil…will update with more info as it comes my way

That’s definitely strange the label claiming 85-90% delta 8 when it’s a crude and generally crude is only 50-60%. Maybe he’s trying to say it has 85-90% conversion rate from cbd to delta 8 instead.

right, but then no cbd content on the label…not sure- I have seen crudes many times in the 75% range, also seen some dark cbd distillates, but not this dark…doesn’t add up

Does the oil look like it could have carbon or T5/T41 in it?

Maybe he ran the reaction and left the powders in it leaving it looking pretty dark.

that would be fucked up…I hadn’t considered it, but those powders would have an opaque quality, yeah? This has a very translucent look aside from the dark pigment

Just distill it with 5% by weight T41 in the flask and it’ll definitely be D8 distillate. This thread makes my head hurt.

thanks

My only question is what’s the conversion rate?

Same as converting d9 to d8?
