Difference between (if any)...

In your own words, what is the difference between terpenes and essential oils? From what I understand, essential oils have terpenes in them.

For instance, could lavender essential oil and linalool be the same thing essentially?

Alexa didn’t know.

Linalool is a specific, isolated terpene- the essential oil of a plant is made up of an array of terpenes unique to that plant, the reason lavender smells exactly as it does is not linalool alone but the proportion and ratio of terpenes that the plant produces.

We think of the essential as the unique voice and personality that the plant projects to communicate and interact with the world around it, some plants release specific terpenes when they are under attack be predators that attract those predators predators, these are the active principals, the volatile sulfur of the plant that are used to seed clouds on the coasts that travel inland and bring water to inland forests- clouds that are seeded from the terpenes of a tree travel 50% further than clouds which are formed without a terp.
