Looks like those plants have been hanging in a barn since last fall. The cops like to brag about keeping drugs off the street, but nobody wanted this stuff in the first place.

The Great Hemp Hoax (2025-02-10).pdf (2.4 MB)

A majority of intoxicating hemp products in California failed to meet both state and national potency limits, had sky-high levels of THC and synthetic cannabinoids, and often evaded state sales taxes, according to a new report.

The products were purchased and tested before Gov. Gavin Newsom issued emergency regulations in September 2024 prohibiting the sale of most hemp products with any THC. The study tested more than 100 products, most of which were purchased online and delivered in California.

Tiffany Devitt, director of regulatory affairs at California-based company CannaCraft, said they chose products that had high search rankings, were available at large retailers or had high distribution rates in California. The study focused on edibles and vapes, which Devitt said were the dominant categories.

“We weren’t seeking to study the traditional wellness products,” Devitt said. “We were looking at the intoxicating products — so those that advertise themselves as basically THC products.”

The details: 56 of 104 products tested exceeded the federal 0.3 percent Delta-9 THC limit — so they would not even be considered hemp under federal law. California has a stricter “total THC” definition, which includes Delta-8 and Delta-9 THC. A whopping 88 percent failed to meet the state’s total THC standard for hemp products.

Some of the THC levels found in products were astounding. “Hemp-derived” gummies contained up to 325 mg of THC per serving. That’s 32 times higher than the 10 mg cap per serving in California’s legal marijuana market, and enough to make even regular cannabis users loopy. Hemp vapes, meanwhile, had THC levels that were as much as 268 percent higher than the state allows in regulated marijuana products.

The testing also indicated that most of the products were synthetic — making them illegal in California. In addition, most of the products were delivered without age verification, relying only on a check-box on the website asking if a customer was over the age of 21.

CCT Sciences further alleges that Mellow Fellow Fun and Arvida Labs have been falsifying lab results to present their products as compliant with legal standards when they are not. The plaintiff conducted independent testing on some of the defendants’ products, such as “Blue Dream” and “Wedding Cake,” which reportedly contained THC levels far exceeding the legal limit. CCT Sciences argues that this deceptive practice gives the defendants an unfair competitive advantage over legally compliant businesses like themselves.

can’t find the original filings for this, anyone know where to find it?

Looks like they are trying to axe THCA and THCP, as well as hand the entire industry over to the ABC instead of the DOAg. Read through the bill and it looks like it’s gaining momentum.
