Recently got some degumming enzyme from Best Value Vacs. Had a hard time stirring the hydrated enzyme into distillate + water without letting the temperature go above 40C. It was suggested that I can degum by dissolving distillate in a bit of ethanol and adding the hydrated enzyme to this and stirring with stir bar at 40C. Before I try this, I just wanted to get some feedback here. I figured that ethanol would denature the enzyme rendering it useless. Is this not the case? I believe the SOP mentions not exposing the enzyme to ethanol. Anyone else successfully degum in ethanol?
Also, I plan to try Carbon Chems degumming clay soon which sounds like an easier process, but for now I just have the enzyme powder.
