De-Volatilizing Time Parameters

Hey there we are using a hotplate stirrer in a hood to remove volatile’s before terp-strip run in the WFE…how long are you Spinning it on the stirrer for once you hit 150c per Liter of oil? Seems like its taking 2+ hours per liter.

I’d be very cautious at that temp, it’s easy to burn stuff and decompose cannabinoids. I have my crew bring it up to that temp but not hold it there long. Only until bubbles subside a bit, then it goes in wiped film for the final devolitilaze with a roughing pump for vacuum

Just following the SOP on the GLG drive…I know its not the most effective…definitely open to suggestions.

“3. On a hotplate with a thermo probe, heat your crude up to 150C with an overhead stirrer for agitation. This is the LEAST effective way. Vacuum speeds the process up by at least 50%.”

I would only do a very low vacuum to help with degassing at that temperature. Like @broken_glassware said be careful. Slowly work your way up to this so you don’t burn the oil where your heat plate is. Just move up in temperature when your liquid gets less viscous. Also a tip don’t let your crude oil stay in a uniformed mixture. Stop the mixer every once in a while for a few seconds and hit it again.

We never had any luck with a stirrer, I think its because you are only heating the bottom not the whole beaker. Would take hours and foam like crazy, swapped to a forced air oven and now can do about 20+ beakers at a time and takes about a hour to do with 2Liters or so in each beaker.
