iāve been trying to suss more out of that paper to get more detail into the Pressurized Hot Water Extraction (PHWE) process they refer to, as it is i feel like it breezes over that part and just says how āit was loaded into the extraction cell and heated to decarb prior to extractionā. instead it seems to refer to the technique having been established in this paper, which used PHWE to extract cannabinoids from cannabis seeds.
in this paper itās stated that ā[high pressure and temperature are used] to keep water in the supercritical fluid form during the entire extraction processāāin this state it exhibits the same solvability properties as methanol and ethanol. fuck yeah.
if this crucial detail was stated before in the various discussions on the forum then i totally missed it! in any case, if this is achievable it would seem that the pH-adjustment route moronnabis suggests isnāt necessary (unless Iām missing something, which is possible and likely). as well, the technique can be varied to selectively extract CBD over THC, etc.
what iām confused about is that itās stated the water is kept in a āsupercritical stateā, yet the highest temp used was 200C, and the best producing temp around 140C. most of the phase charts for water iāve looked up put this outside waterās supercritical parameters, which arise at 374C minimum. again itās likely iām missing something, iāll be reading up more but if anyone has any insight iād love to hear it.
the paper then refers to this paper on PHWE for extraction of vitamin C and phenolic compounds, as its reference for the PHWE method.
iām just cracking all this open but this is all interesting af to read.
