Just in case you weren’t aware of the ketene issue surrounding vaping thc acetate.

Hi Robotballon,
This has been disproven and found to not be an issue with cannabinoid acetates as the “potential” release of ketene is so low IF any is produced it is quickly reacted with water in your lungs to form acetic acid which at the incedibly low ppms is not an issue.

As for that paper, there are tons of issues with how they performed their testing which gave false results. Our lab is currently in the process of disproving their findings and publishing a rebuttle. We will be contacting that lab prior to release to give them a chance to request a retraction before publishing.

The main one is the bases of their entire agrument that being how they indicated the formation of ketene. We have found that mixing benzylamine (their indicator showing the formation of ketene) in a pot with a cannabinoid acetate and chloroform (which is their testing conditions) will react readily and stoiciometrically to deacetylate the cannabinoid acetate to form N-Benzylacetamide (which is their proof by NMR that ketene was formed). Essentially what this means is all the work they did was false.

Additionally, it was never proven potential ketene formation had anything to do with the issues Vit E acetate caused. That was just one thing that was brought up as a potential reason why it was causing peolple harm. Every paper and study even states in the paper that there is no evidence ketene formation had anything to do with it and that the conditions/temoeratures required for ketene formation from VIt E Acetate do not occur in real world use. Really what is known is Vit E itself (acetate or regular) should not ever be vaped and the same issues would have most likely arrived if regular Vit E was used.

If you have any other questions please ask. We love to share the science

I would still be concerned with low ppms. Saying that it reacts away with water sounds good on paper, but I would still be concerned with real life chronic exposure regardless.

Very interesting…

Agreed. But I do wonder if chronic exposure to low concentrations of ketene gas made it worse.

Thank you for the detailed response.

Key terms “potential” and “IF” which is why i used quotation marks and capitolized. Meaning that ketene formation most likely does not actually occur at the temperatures of a cartridge.
