Crispr, cannabis + ethylene

So they used genetic engineering w crispr and ethylene to increase the production. Ethylene gas I suppose? That’s new to me.

I wonder if anyone has a canna brand built around a crispr seed bank they made. Only a matter of time.

The effect on potency would be my first question, since it tends to vary inversely with yield. I dont see any mention of it in the article. Idk if they just spread the same amount of cannabinoids across more flowering sites.

In this instance I would not expect potency to suffer (much), but pretty much anything is possible when tweaking genetic networks “just to see what happens”….

I wonder what the mutants looked like. Could only assume a freak show side effect. Pun intended

I don’t give a shit about higher yields, I give a shit about faster growth times that isn’t auto flowering and maintains full yield.

Would depend on the edit(s) made.

No?

Only if they could made a cannabis strain specifically meant to treat you based on your genetic factors.

… would require your full genome sequence (along with more knowledge on decoding that than we currently have).

Coming originally from the data science world, I would love to be able to have my genome sequenced for funsies, but I don’t trust anyone with that data, so I haven’t. Not like it matters since my mom and sister already did it, but it’s a fruitless hill I’ll die on.

That said, I think it would be wild as hell for medical treatment to advance to the point that you have a custom tailored bio-reactor (plant) produce the compounds that can treat your condition.

We are certainly making progress…
