the risk is for any business accepting a credit card - no way around it - the customer can contact the card issuer and dispute the charge - if you’re not comfortable with this, use an alternate method such as Zelle, eCheck, etc - I can help you with these - DM me
eCheck won’t do your conversion rate any favors. It’s too foreign to people because they don’t want to enter Account/Routing or go through the whole process of verifying online banking for some online business. Zelle is not an option for retail but may work if you’re having them pay by invoice.
He is right, most card processors don’t give two shits if it’s friendly fraud or not and they say they’re disputing the charging and fighting for you but they always side with the buyer. There are people that just get through life ordering things then filing a chargeback claim the day it’s scheduled to get delivered at their door and it can take months or years for their bank to take notice.
It’s a much bigger issue than people realize. American shoppers can be really shitty. 75% of the chargeback claims in 2019 were proven to be friendly fraud. Friendly fraud is where they claim the transaction was fraudulent and claim that someone stole their credit card number and proceeded to mail stuff to the cardholder’s house (which would make no sense). These people then neglect to send the stuff back claiming they never bought it so they get their money back from the bank (at the sellers expense) and they keep the product. So yes, chargebacks are helpful to protect customers from credit card fraud but the vast majority of chargeback claims (77%) are people just straight up robbing online businesses. Many processors will hit the seller with a fee for a chargeback, I’ve seen $25 per chargeback then on top of that if you get enough chargebacks in a short time you can lose your ability to process payments altogether.
Lol bro trust me.
You do not want to get this train rolling
Actually, I can set you up with Zelle right there on your site, just like credit card. Some customers like that Zelle is through major banks, and feel more comfortable with it for that reason. For eCheck, I’ll say that the solution I use is super easy - many are not - makes a huge difference in whether they use it or not. For both, I like them as backups in case a card brand (visa) decides to shut down all accounts for a particular processor. Nothing is perfect, but combining together, and offering a good product with good support equals a sustainable ecomm business.
Care to cite where you found that number? I am not doubting you, but complete numbers from 2019 seem a little too soon.
Edited: quick search found numbers from 2016, it’s 71% there.
How come every single thread I come on I see @spdking arguing with SOMEBODY lmao every fucking thread!!
I’m waiting for Rowan to show up and join the debate. They turn a lot of threads into a proxy war like the US/Iran.
Haha I can’t lie, it’s entertaining at times but now I am seeing it on almost every thread , literally… I’m just like GIVE IT A FUCKING REST ALREADY lol
