Why would my oil be coming down with this redish streak? Is there a temp I can set to remove it?
Youre systems either dirty or you’re codistilling tails
I cleaned it before running, I have this problem every other day. Sometimes when I slightly speed the wipers it helps. This is second pass. I deterp in the shortpath, wipe at 167° condense 90° wipe spin 60 ish, That’s pretty much it.
60 ish rpms?
I’d do atleast 300
That’s like doing 20 mph in a 65 mph zone!
So I got the red streak off, I lowered the body head to 115c, problem now is a lot going to waste side.
Yeah 60% on the Penta-Drive.
Do you have a feed pump?
Yeah, easy load II, feed at 6
Hey everyone. So I got the red streak out and it looked good coming down out the wipe film, once it’s all collected in a bottle it gets dark. Weird. But I’m guessing because I don’t use a glass reactor before sending it to the wipe film?
I personally always use a reactor. But you do have to realize that what a thin film of distillate looks like isn’t indicative of it in the bulk.
I know this is a super old thread but what temps do you recomend a 1st pass/terp strip? I recently started using a very crappy chinese system. Im running slow with main evap @190 and condenser at 80 or so. its a crude material that i dont think was even fully decarbed. wipers at 200rpm and im getting a lot of chlorophyl in my dist fraction.
F or C?! That seems super hot, hotter than even a second pass. What is your vacuum at?
chlorophyll in your distillate fraction means you are bumping (semi volatile material getting so hot that it bubbles up through your condenser even though it technically isn’t boiling). Chlorophyll is not volatile at any distillation parameters that the industry is traditionally capable of. recombine everything, fully decarb it (heat to 140C for 3 hours or so), then try again.
Yeah 190C is pretty hot. I think I was running at 165C. I have had trouble with it not fully being decarbed or all of the solvent out of it and really starts bubbling over onto the condensor. I never got real good with the WFE but proper prep and even moreso cleanup at the end made the whole process so much easier and less of a headache. We decarbed our crude in an 80 gal jacketted tank so I was able to bring it up to 120C under vacuume for a day to get off every last bit of solvent and some of the real nasty terpenes that made distillation easier.
This is the way.
You recirculate your waste stream back intro the feed tank?
Is this on the second pass?
I’ve been happy running 1st pass @ 130 evap/50 condenser, adjusting feed rate to keep vac around 200-250mTorr and spinning @ 300 RPMs. Cold trap gets any remaining monoterpenes after decarb/devol, and most of the sesquiterps and a tiny bit of cannabinoids get condensed on the coil. Second pass should be free of anything more volatile than cannabinoids at that point.
That being said, on my wiper it almost always comes out dark if the evaporator is >170 or the vacuum level is too high. Heat + O2 = oxidized oil.
Second pass, yes I’d throw my tails back into the feed flask until I’d collected all of the 159C fraction, then I’d bump up temp to squeeze out remaining cannabinoids at around 172.
159C was just a perfect spot for color for me
how many passes to get to this? I’m curious, new to the game but enjoying learning the process. currently condensor is 120 1st 127 second and third.
