Communicating to Budtenders

So as we all know there are tons of different types of concentrates. From Solvent-less and than Solvent.

There are so many sub-categories. How do you educate bud tenders to sell your product?

I like the approach of bringing educational material with me on sales calls. Bring 2 or 3 copies of everything (incase the boss or an especially curious employee wants to take it home) and put it all together in a folder for them to keep at the register

Plant your company logo everywhere and the put a nice infographic together that they can display on thier countertops

Labs, labs, labs. SHOW them the difference on paper (terpenes, cannabinoids, etc) and bring plenty of samples to give away so everyone involved can try.

Also putting together a gift bag for every employee at the store with samples and education is sure fire way to get them to know more and push your products more. People love free shit and will more than likely skim over anything you give them with it

I second this

Heck yeah that all sounds great. I love the idea of showing them the difference. Using the testing facility to our advantage. Since we are proud of our results we should show them off as much as possible.

Thanks for your advice.

Tell them its “fire” and then ignore them like you are the most superior human they have ever had the pleasure to meet.

Are you asking from a managers position of the shop or as a company selling the product? I used to have companies pitch a “budtender education” as many requested but after so many sales people with little to no canna experience(most from alcohol/medical sales in the cali scene) I stepped away from that and their bs campaigns to help push their own product.

Was there some truth to some most definitely but people claiming rosin is superior cause it’s natural and hearing my bud tenders spew is just about when the line was drawn. Would request sales people to only discuss product with me/the owner

Bud tender education is only as good as the person teaching it. Most of the knowledge out there is trash and keeps getting passed around. Explain why it’s wrong with test results and product and you’re well on your way.

Is it legal to institute a spiff program? Maybe the budtenders track sales and recieve free product for every 10 sales of your stuff

 I bet this actually happens

Well they already have a points system or loyalty program in some dispos where the customer earns points based on the purchase and the points can be used as a discount towards the next purchase. So I’m pretty sure the employee getting free cannabis or canna-bi product based on sales rates isn’t any different.

Bud tenders are um yeah…

All I’m saying.

Don’t blame the budtenders, blame management for not giving real training.

I think @ky_cbd nailed it. Budtenders are just doing entry-level retail jobs. It’s up to you to enrich them professionally about industry products.

I had a budtender once tell me that Indicas are actually just sativa strains grown longer… I get what she was trying to say, that the longer they’re grown the more Stoney or “indica like” the high will become.

But she didn’t say that, what she said was both ignorant and incorrect. Ignorance is bliss right?

I don’t blame management, I blame people getting into weed because, “it’s weed man”

We have a competition in so cal the bud tender that sells the most of our carts gets a 1 week Mexico cruise. This was a hit before covid.
Now we do weekly cash for each stores high seller.

I feel 90% of the consumer thinks the same way as the example bud tender you gave. Not everyone is going to the ins and outs of cannabis. Some clients love to hear is “fire” or “it’s the new exotic IG blah blah”. What does it hurt to train your workers to be more knowledgeable. They do that for Starbucks and smaller coffee shops since coffee and science of making coffee and the bean genetics is a huge thing.

I’ve been top management and bud tender, you should always been given the right tools to succeed which appeases the both sides.
