i love those saddle shaped epdm gaskets. how else do you know which ones to throw out?
My only beef with gear pumps is dry running, they die pretty fast like that.
There are alot of types of pumps out there, no one is the magic bullet. There is a lot of careful consideration in selecting the correct pump for an application.
True, gear pumps don’t like dry run. They can handle about a minute. A flow switch or pressure gauge can be added to protect the pump/system.
I just got a mag drive centrifugal and it is awesome. Older caster pump I got for $150 off eBay. It seems to be able to pull a little bit of prime which is handy and has no trouble with -60C fluids. Obviously not great for dosing/controlled feed but I’m surprised I haven’t heard of more people using this kind of pump on here.
mag drive centrifugal pumps are great for cold liquids, the disadvantage is fairly low head/output pressure. If you need a transfer pump this is the solution.
A multistage centrifugal can achieve very high heads
But then again multi-stage mag drive is pretty rare IME

True, but nowhere needed for some types of filtration people want to use them for. Hard to get 60-120 psi from one of those, not to mention you would be heating the liquid in the pump at a low flow rate like that, that is where the ever delicate gear pump shines.
Hi guys. We have Italian made pumps, FDA Version, for half the price of Yamada.
Our pump manufacturer designed a pump for us, with a pneumatic exchanger that holds up to cold temperatures. The diaphragms are Santoprene for temperature and ethanol compatibility.
Of course we carry all replacement parts and many other diaphragm materials.
How much Compressed air CFM do these require? Also, at those temps I would think you need to have a desiccant dryer on the compressor.
Air consumption curves are on our website so follow the link on the picture. Most customers do well with somewhere between 15-20 CFM. And yes you need dry air to avoid issues, we got those here.

Our cryo chiller will be chilling a jacketed 30 gallon ethanol tank, then we are wanting a pump to pump that (-80c) - (-10c) ethanol through the outer jackets of our ETS MEP hydrocarbon machine. We would be leaving the whole system on, chilling, and circulating, for 24 hours a day 5 days a week. Sound like your pump can handle?
Revisiting this topic. We bought a cryo chiller from Telemark (local here in Battle Ground, WA) and will be chilling a jacketed 30 gallon ethanol tank with the chiller, then we are wanting a pump to pump that ((-80c) - (-10c) depending on desired end product) ethanol through the OUTER jackets of our ETS MEP hydrocarbon machine (material columns, dual recovery coil, injection coil, solvent tank). We would be leaving the whole system on, chilling, and circulating, for 24 hours a day 5 days a week. Any suggestions on pumps that could handle this? Willing to spend if we have to, so far we have been looking at the @N.B.OLER pump that I had seen posted on here before. Any suggestions and help would be awesome, thank you!
