I’m about to quite my job, where I currently have access to the machines I use. I have steel building sitting in the clearing it’s going to be built in. Once its built…I’ll have machines again…
But until I quit…if I can make a few…why not. I was finishing up some Ti 6al 4v or whatever it is…I can never remember…baffles for an old project. Gotta finish what I’ve started first.
Ive used felt a long time but the w1 powder went through 1 um felt, My rings are as tight as can be. I cant even get the .5 micron felt in because its slightly thicker. I guess its possible I messed up because the top filter did seem to be blown out- probaly from nitrogen testing. and then under vac i couldve pulled powder through the crc bypass valves and hoses. i have a 1 micron sintered on top of collection and a .5 strapped on the collection stub so the oil is clean but I have a feeling I had channeling. The oil is an acceptable color but doest look white or clear like some crc.
I will note, I do not put powders on the felt. I still use paper filters staged above, and am able to run the same felt for a while as long as I do my part. Or…fuck it…its felt and cheap. No slowed production due to a clogged disc.
PREFILTERS , PREFILTERS PREFILTERS
30+ runs still no powders on disk
2 tri clamp paper filters a extras plate and rings to make it a double filter(2 plates , 4x filter paper in all and I always use 2 papers to make sure the rings seal tight)…then a felt depth filter then my disk
I havent washed my disk once and I have two disk…a 5um and 1um…some might say it’s a lil overboard but o well
I dont think it failed but I use duda felt. I think its just not the same as a true filter paper- regular filter paper collects a thick stack of waxes dewaxing and clogs but there is a noticeable stack of wax and the felt doesnt either. It cleaned 99 percent probably but i saw dust residue below the 3 filter stack, but I had 2 more filters after that.
I watched but its easier when the column is clear. also the his solvent isnt boiling at 32 degrees. Ill figure it out. I think a celite bed might just do it.
I like to soak the sintered disc in isopropyl and then hook it up to a triclamp lid and use butane vapors to push the isopropyl into a bucket. This will dry the disc of isopropyl very easily.
I’ve never once taken my sintered disk off and cleaned them (well once I never will again)…one reason they NEVER see powders…I have 2 filter plates w drop in ring plate combo to make 1 filter plate 2bplates. I load both w 2-4um papers. Then I have the exact same double paper filter again 2-4um…then filter plate filled w tampon Tek…then 5,I’m and 1um welded disk. Powders make it past the first plate pretty good, the next plate barely, never makes it through the 1um tampon so when the disk get something it’s a liquid only. I’ve taken them off tried to clean them nothing ever comes off. Proper Prefilters and save yourself some time!
I even have a column to hold the solvent not suspended in material now after it goes through the material while waiting to get through the light crc
And I still wanna add the .22um from waxplug in column above the collection so it’s not inside the collection pot
Take it from me just use some extra Prefilters and u want have powders on ur disk, crc done the right way, if I had hot material though I was remediating then I would clean the system throughout before use
