Cellulase Enzyme for Fermented Biomass

Does anyone have any info on breaking down biomass using a cellulase enzyme (or an alternative enzyme; if my research is incorrect)?

Can anyone help with a basic SOP on this? I’m trying to help a farmer, find a use for his biomass.

One thing that might complicate the matter is you need to obtain a federal distilled spirits permit, that can sometimes be tricky/ costly.

That would make sense. Good point. Probably not the best project for us to start at the current moment.

In order to legally make fuel alcohol one must have the proper permits. A federal fuel alcohol producer permit is available for free from the TTB. The application must be submitted and approved by the TTB before fuel alcohol is manufactured.

would it be considered fuel?

it’s enough to get started…and can be sold as fuel.

assuming success, then you get the more restrictive permit.

Does selling it as an extraction solvent negate the drinky tax?

that is my interpretation of the rules.

doesn’t negate the need to pay the tax up front…but entity performing the extraction can ask for all but $1/gal back.

Ive not run into an extraction company that has actually asked for that money back…but I also don’t tend to poke at folks about their financials.
