I think I understood how that should be done:
Put cbd isolate in rbf, attach condenser and flush with argon, melt It at about 70°C then add 200 proof ethanol and 20% vol. 85% phosphoric acid, close the condenser with ptfe lined glass stopcock and reflux for 4hrs while stirring, there they comes the questions:
Are water washes okay when working with Ethanol? I suppose it’s going to mix with waste water so that in the separatory funnel will remain just the oil Is that correct?
Which % Is going to yeld this method?
Then I’m going to spd the crude to remove the last bit of ethanol, heads and tails.
If anyone has suggestions about this SOP sharing them will be appreciated, thanks you guys!
Edit: i already read various topics where people complaint about difficulty to wash the oil without loosing some or creating emulsions when in Ethanol, so i was thinking to add heptane/hexane during the first water wash in order not to lose the NPS+THC phase and leave behind waste waters (with Ethanol in it) then recover from vacuum distillation all the NPS. Is that good or am i dumb?
Where I am hexane Is way cheaper than heptane but i know it poses some health issues, will It be a problem even After vac.dist?
Dry your pfosforic in an oven at 140C check by weight if all water is evaporated
Dry in the middle of the oven and NOT at the bottom right on top of the heating mechanism
Dry your ethanol with molsieves 3 or 4a
Place a reflux condensor on the reaction flask
This will make a pretty D8
Use hexane as solvent and high D9 becomes feasible
Run at reflux temp 68C
Use 30-40% by weight of cbd of dry phosforic
Off gas your solvent with argon
Run time 3-5 hours
Keep argon blanket at all times balloon
r
Washing without the presence of 2 immisible solvents is a bitch
When running on an alkane mixing speed is rxn speed so mix hard
Use the be test for indication of completion
When running with heptane should i keep It at reflux or at lower temps (to achieve D9)?
So… I tried the rxn with Ethanol and after spd obtained a fairly potente product, the only problem being it has a lingering chemical odor, very subtle but does not taste like hemp derived extract for sure… I water washed the oil after evaporating all the ethanol and dissolving in heptane (3:1) in a sep. funnel 3 times: 1st time with bicarbonate, then just water, last water wash had clear water after shaking so i didn’t did more washes. I distilled it in vacuum spd and the stirbar stopped working mid distillation, this lead to a little bit of bumping. Also i think I ended with tails in the product due to a portion of it being of a more intense amber than the rest, could this be the cause of the smell?
