CBD Isolate with MCT/Coconut Oil in 510 Vape cart?

I have some CBD isolate (white powder), and I’d like to put it into a 510 cartridge and vape it. I would prefer this to be as cheap as possible. I already have a 510 battery, and access to MCT oil and the CBD isolate.

My general understanding is that I can warm up some MCT oil, put some CBD isolate into it, mix it in, and take the mix and put it into a cart.

Is there a consensus as to whether vaping MCT oil is viable? I see people warning against it because it’s a lipid, but I also see people claiming MCT molecules are small enough to be broken down in the lungs. I see reports of people using MCT and nothing about it going badly, but I still see relatively recent advisement against using MCT. I found a study about using virgin coconut oil as an inhaler which doesn’t raise a concern about vaporizing it: Does Inhalation of Virgin Coconut Oil Accelerate Reversal of Airway Remodelling in an Allergic Model of Asthma?

I’m unfamiliar with crystallization, but I’ve heard that’s a concern when dealing with CBD isolate. Is this a problem for a vape pen? Is there a certain amount of CBD isolate I should add to oil to prevent this from happening? I’m imagining mixing the isolate with MCT, having most of it mix together, some excess isolate left at the bottom, and being able to take the oil on-top and tossing that into a pen without any specific ratios.

Don’t vape MCT

Do you have any sources that have something detailed about why not to vape MCT?

It’s best to mix CBD isolate with CBDa isolate to make a crystallization-resistant CBD cartridge. The two are both typically crystalline on their own but melted together at a low temp they will both inhibit crystallization of one-another. CBDa isolate is more expensive than CBD isolate but it’s still a very affordable way of doing it. It can help to work in some other minor cannabinoids like CBT distillate or a full spectrum distillate and a small percentage of terpenes. If that’s out of your price range, just purchase a correctly made CBD cartridge until you’re able to acquire the proper materials to make use of your CBD isolate. Use the right ingredients, not what’s just most conveniently in front of you.

Debate about MCT oil inhalation aside, it’s simply not a good way to inhibit recrystallization of CBD. MCT is an effective carrier for CBD tinctures where it’s predominantly carrier oil but it’s not a good idea for cartridges. You’d need to use a massive percentage of MCT oil and at that point it’d be so watered down it would be leaking through your hardware and burn so hot it would taste like you’re vaping burnt popcorn. All things considered, I’d suggest just making edibles with your isolate or doing coconut oil based gelatin capsules before making anything for inhalation if you’re trying to keep this as low cost as possible.

I’ve done what you are suggesting. It works, but it’s a waste. MCT alone in a modern cart burns way too hot and becomes unpleasant fast. The isolate never mixes as well as desired, even with a heated stirrer and remains a solid in the hardware.

The solubility limit of CBD in pure C8/C10 MCT oil is 33% (at room temperature).

@Espionage724 The solution proposed by @MassTerpenes is much better and safer. Look into CBD/CBDa/terpenes mixtures, and also CBC/CBT/CBL addition.

Just so I understand this clearly, crystallization is when the CBD crystals separate from the liquid it’s mixed with? Does the 33% solubility limit mean that 33% of CBD will stay in MCT by itself?

What if I did the CBD isolate + MCT mix, let it sit for a while to intentionally crystalize, and use the oil that’s leftover? I’m not sure exactly what crystallization looks like in a cart, but do the crystals float or sink in the MCT mix, or is it distributed all-throughout it?

What if I just ignore crystallization in the cart, continue to use it, and occasionally top it off with MCT to try to mix the CBD back in?

I realize there’s more efficient means of using CBD isolate, but I’m just really interested in vaping it :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t think you’re on the same page with any of us here. No one here is going to tell you that’s a good idea. You should probably just buy a premade CBD cartridge somewhere.

If you’re looking for some one here to tell you to vape mct I don’t think you’re going to find it… but if that’s what you really want to do then by all means find out why everyone is telling you not to.

Not to mention that its horrible for your lungs and is very morally wrong

Mix CBD isolate with CBC distillate and hemp derived terpenes. Cut the MCT out of the equation. Hell use CBG distillate too. Just don’t use MCT oil…

Are you sure you want to use isolate in your vape? When you can use distillate? Which will be easier to work with.

I would save the isolate to eat personally.

cheap route… SAFER than mct… buy yourself some PG/VG mix and homogenize your isolate into that.

please for the love of god. do not. do… not… vape MCT. lipid pneumonia

IF handed to someone else.

I don’t see any moral complications if @Espionage724 wants only to destroy their own lungs.

we have certainly done our part and attempted to dissuade them.

Agreed. Im 10000% about letting people put whatever they want into their own bodies but its deplorable to do that to someone else. Also the legal liabilities of selling a knowingly harmful product is an entire other side to this.

dig deeper. eg

…and think beyond MCT.

I assure everyone I’m only interested in this for personal-use!

Is there a verified case of MCT causing lipid pneumonia? There’s this post from a seller that details why MCT wouldn’t cause that: steelrollin comments on CBDistillery using MCT oil as vape oil?

All I’m seeing about MCT says that it wouldn’t be an issue because the molecules are small-enough to be broken down.

where are you looking?

Some of that says that MCT was present in the lungs, alongside Vit E acetate, and that it “may” cause illness. If MCT and Vit E were present, I assume the Vit E would be the issue since there’s studies about it, but that doesn’t necessarily mean MCT is an issue because it was present?

What happens to distillate in the lungs when vaped? Does it instantly leave the lungs, or does it stick around for a bit until it’s broken down?

Huffing your meds is stupid. Effective. But stupid nevertheless.

You wanna use MCT. Go ahead.

I’ve tried it. I don’t advise it.
