tasteful artwork too:
Has anyone tried this yet? Tol and pTSA for 48 h at RT?
I am thinking of trying it over the weekend. I have been down this road many times -published work doesnât work as published. It is actually really rare that it does.
Where did you source your toluene?
Be careful toluene is nasty, nasty shit.
Any luck?
Toluene is not nasty at all. I worked with it many, many times and it certainly is one of my go-to organic solvents.
It has reasonable toxicity characteristics, a good balance between volatility and boiling point and its ability to form an azeotrope with water is a big bonus!
K
Edit: Toluene carries a health hazard of 2 on the NFPA 704 diamond. Hereâs a reference for what the levels indicate.
The odor threshold is anywhere between 0.5 - 69ppm.
California recommends a TWA of 10ppm for an 8-hour day.
If you can smell it constantly in your work environment, your exposure level is too high.
It can also be absorbed through the skin.
Itâs nasty. Itâs not beta mercaptoethanol but itâs an organic solvent that you want to be careful around, especially if youâre refluxing with acid.
That being said, youâre right about it being a good choice for organic solvent.
youâre doing it wrong.
especially if youâre not a chemist.
Toluene? Meh. There are much worse solvents to use⌠there are also much better solvents to use in terms of safety.
It is a kinda neat solvent⌠sorta watery and oily at the same time. It can be difficult to recover/purge if temp and vac arenât correct.
Have you tried this reaction yet?
Not yet, ran out of Argon before I took my weekend off. Ill run it once im back tomorrow or Friday since I have argon now
nice⌠looking forward to how it goes on your end
GET DA GASSSSSSS
âBody unclearâ screw you (not at you damn reply requirements wants MoRe WorDs)
Iâm not a chemist. Iâm chemical engineer. A chemist should know the difference.
Edit: they let the engineers create the safety standards for a reason
