Can't hold vac from solvent tank to manifold

So, I made this manifold.

I’m using it to do an n2 push/venturi, solvent recovery on the gas side; injecting to the CLS from the liquid side.

Somewhere from the mini ball valves to the tank I’m getting a leak cuz it won’t hold vacuum. I tried linking the tank to the manifold from all 3 ports. I switched out hoses.

The tank itself is as tight as can be. I’ve lost my temper multiple times this week and today with this Situation. The only thing left I can think of is the tank’s MJIC is leaking somehow?

Edit: I’ve also retaped, tightened, tore this manifold apart multiple times.

That blue valve is most likely your issue

Yea its probably that shitty tank. See if u can get a stainless tank somewhere

It’s def not the valve itself. If all valves are closed vac will stay just fine.

I looked at those today. That is literally the only other thing I can possibly think of.

It would be nice to ixnay this whole manifold except to pull vac on my n2 line as well…

Edit: wording

Ive seen them leak from the valve as well. The valve can hold a seal when closed but it will leak once opened. If you remove the blue plastic you would see this on the brass fitting by using a tool to turn it

Okay, okay, now I hadn’t thought of that! I think I have some other valves laying around. I’ll try that before buying a stainless tank.

Ps. Been using ur W1, loving it so far, you da man.

I’m wirh agreement it’s that shitty short blue handle valve. I got a whole box of them here. :man_facepalming:t3::man_facepalming:t3::man_facepalming:t3: They are like 4 years old. I should just toss them

OK, this thing is getting chucked regardless now, with 3 ppl saying this within 5 min of me posting this.

Will report back if it’s the notorious blue devil.

The black handle one. If you can looking inside and see if you can see the gasket. These are known to have gasket issues too but it’s pretty easy seeing when you have a defect on one of those

Oh shit I just saw you guys are talking about the little blue ball valve from bvv. Those leak for sure if you press it with a screwdriver you can hear the hiss. I was talking about the valve on the solvent tank. Those go bad too

Oh no now u got me all noid about all my valves :rofl:
Aren’t the nai locks super high end? I think I paid out the ass for those?

What is the industry standard/ ol reliable??

I’ve learned a lot on this website, like a lot a lot, but I think I’m learning right now to just pay up for the good shit. All this cheap “should do” shit always bites me in the ass. Bvv specifically.

Pressure test the thing with n2 and spray it down with soapy water. The leak will show.

I’ve debated doing this as well. Was even thinking about the good ol bathtub method

I’ll definitely have an answer tomorrow. Cuz I think the bathtub method is the best option for narrowing this down

Whatever’s easiest for yah.

Swagelok

I’d recommend superlok for a cheaper alternative

I agree that you should replace that blue valve on the manifold regardless. You might try tightening the packing nut on that purple handle bvv valve as well. I’ve used some of the purple handle valves in the past and there’s been several times where I wouldn’t reach a full vac until I tightened the packing nut.

I’ll definitely be looking into the superlock. I was under the impression nai lock IS swagelock, but I’ll definitely be looking into getting the best valves for my entire system. I’ve taken valves for granted all these years. No longer.
