it’s noisy as fuck, is it normal?
First did you add fresh oil and the appropriate amount/type?
2nd I think it’s extra loud at the moment because you don’t have it hooked up to anything.
Put a cap on the intake see how it sounds or hook up a vac gauge to the intake and test it. I think it will seem quieter when actually hooked up to your setup.
Do you have an oil mist filter? Run an exhaust hose out the window or something, don’t block the exhaust.
Basically under normal operation you’ll hear the pump running as in the motor spinning etc but your hearing extra noises from the open ports etc.
I don’t have fresh oil in it, it actually looks black
I just received it and plugged it and turned it ON, just to check that it at least turns ON. I was kinda shocked by the noise.
I don’t have an oil mist filter, will it reduce the noise? the exhaust isn’t blocked. I was thinking about putting a motorbike silencer on the exhaust, somehow
Ok, no worries. you need to order some fresh vacuum pump oil, if there appears to be old dirty oil in there we want it out.
You can flush it with some clean oil and get it working nice very easily.
Gimme 5min I will update. Don’t test it anymore until you get oil though.
Don’t worry about oil mist filter it just prevents oil loss and prevents mist from entering your work space. You can just run a exhaust line, not a big deal.
I believe you will want Leybonol LVO100 for a vac oil. (This is a info pdf sheet about leybold oils)
Here’s a pdf manual, covers oil change on pg17-18 but it’s very easy.
You can use other vac oils but it should at least be an equivalent grade to the oil recommended by Leybold.
thanks mate
I’ve a few bottles of “Errecom vacuum pump oil iso 32”
you think it’s good? Or at least just to fill and drain again to try to get rid of the traces of the old oil.
otherwise I can just get the leybonol oil, it’s not a problem
also do you think opening the pump/motor etc… and cleaning everything would help? I can’t really buy a rebuild kit, they cost 400€, which is the price I paid for the pump, so it seems silly
I believe that actually should be a good equivalent to the leybonol lvo 100. So you should be good to both flush with that material and can use a fresh batch to run your pump.
I do not think you need to do a rebuild. I would add some of that errecom oil so you can see that the sight glass is filling up, the manual indicates the fill lines on the sight glass.
Once there is a proper amount of oil (because the dirty oil level is also pretty low, you can also try draining the old oil first and just running with new oil but definitely use the first batch to clean and add new stuff) run it for 30min or so and let the pump/oil warm itself up. Then shut everything down and drain it hot, kinda like you would for changing oil in a vehicle.
Then add the correct amount of fresh oil and you should be good to go.
You could build a silencer box around it, I’ve done that before with some success. In an RV but same difference
There’s even pre made ones for generators you can buy
will it not overheat? Or trap the vapors and end-up like this Vacuum Pump Explosion in Chemistry Building | PennEHRS
I’d rather not buy another 100-200€ thing yet again
First I will start by recommending you should ask an expert such as @Mountain32 and take his advice over just about everyone else over here because he is most definitely an expert.
My personal vacuum pump cleaning regime dependent on how dirty the pump is and what it’s dirty with. I may choose to open it disassemble it and thoroughly clean it myself or I may start by thoroughly draining the pump. By thoroughly I mean I opened the drain then tilt the pump so the drain is most certainly the lowest place for the oil to go and then roll it a bit side to side to make sure you get all the oil out then replace the drain plug about halfway in and while plugging the inlet I turn on the pump for second or two and let it run for a second or two with the inlet wide open and then drain in the same manner as before and I will repeat this process a couple of times to make sure that all the oil that’s in the pump is actually drained. And if the pump is/was extremely dirty (if it is/was not extremely dirty I may skip the part with the Ethyl Alcohol) I will pour in Ethel Alcohol and let it sit for a while in there and then repeat the same process of turning it on for literally a second or two and then draining it (in my opinion you should never run a pump for more than a couple of seconds without oil in it and definitely if you have alcohol or any other solvent in it as it may cause a bit of damage). And again depending on how nasty the alcohol I’m draining is I may repeat the process with alcohol. After I’m sufficiently satisfied with the “cleanliness” of the alcohol and draining, then I will pour in AW-68 hydraulic oil (because it’s cheap enough) and let it run for 20 or 30 minutes to make sure the pump gets nice and hot and then drain that while the pump is still hot and afterwards I will put in the oil I will actually use for normal pump use.
But that’s just me I tend to overdo stuff.
Honestly I’d just put things on pause until you find a suitable space for your situation. Apartment runs are not ideal to say the least
that’s not gonna happen
Im like WTF should i call the cops on you? In an apt, NEXT TO FAMILIES. WTF???
what do you mean?
I’m talking about the noise nuisance
In a safe spot?
I don’t understand what you mean
dont do a hash lab in an apt dummy\
why??
Its dangerous for so many reasons? Are you an electrician and have all the electrical to code for a lab? Did your neighbors agree to be next to a bomb?
It’s a pump not a bomb
It works by plugging it into the wall and pushing the “ON” button, you don’t need to be an electrician for that.
If you don’t have anything to add about the noise aspect of the pump, you’re not welcome to respond.
are you removing ethanol
