Thank you for the valuable feedback on my previous topic. I’m currently doing some research on glass reactors and considering getting one when I order my 10 lb closed-loop setup.
My question is: can THCA be crashed out in the same way that CBD isolate is produced using a glass reactor? I’d appreciate any insights or experiences you might be willing to share.
One does not simply crash out THCA in a glass reactor
In theory, yes technically you can but the problem is time/temp for the solvent size.
Pentane at -86c could take a week.
Butane at -60c can take an hour.
Propane at -20c can take 20 min…
In our ISS I have seen a complete crash in under 15 minutes…
But that is a pressurized environment and using our 70/30 propane heavy blend along with our ProJak thermal control system.
Now if only there were crystallization solvents other than propane butane and pentane. Then we’d really be process chemists.
Technically you can crystallize with a whole slew of different solvents and mixtures of solvents it’s just these are the most typical ones as they are both are extraction solvents and or closely related to them.
In my opinion propane is the best because it doesn’t need to be as cold to get a higher purity output…. But at the same time because of its smaller size it physically can’t hold as much to begin with so you have upsides and downsides to every solvent.
But then also each molecule crashes a little bit different and you got to take that into. And that’s why we actually do a blend with our propane to introduce some butane in there to increase the amount of product that could be held in the same solution while at the same time minimizing that amount so that way we minimize the additional impurities that it brings along with it during extraction.
I have worked with a whole long list of different solvents looking for what’s best and most applicable to our case of THCA and CBDA isolation.

It s a risky task on glass due to thermal shock but mixing liquid nitrogen in the solvent and keeping good control of the solution temperature is crucial ( empty jacket when preforming ) goal temp is approx -120 C
The use of anti solvent neo-pentane hard to buy so Isomerization with aluminium cloride and distillation of this rxn to make it is probably needed
The use of different solvents than thee usual
Acetone anti solvent 1.3 propanodiol drip wise at low temps - C
Dma- dmf or thf or acetone nitril spit accitic cannabinoids fast
Rinsing and recrystelization is recommended since all mentioned solvents are gnarly or straight poison
Acetone itself is relatively safe to use. Your body makes small amounts of it when you process fat…
Sugars, fats, and waxes are not soluble in acetone and you can use it to perform a room temp dewax that only takes a few minutes to complete… 
You can take the dewaxed acetone and let it slow-evap crystallize and you get these massive THCa rocks that grow up out of the surface. Takes about a month to grow. They typically test ND or below threshold for acetone. One of our clients was doing this and is how I know about it passing for residuals.

The super slow stacking does tend to assist with dense structure formations and all the benefits that comes with it.
youre body makes a fuck ton of sulfuric acid when your body processes fats too, i wouldn’t say small amounts of it are safe, just depending on where you splash it, less life altering than on other parts of your body.
Taking in consideration that the scent treshhold is 200-400 ppm one can become a serious ketone factory

“Can” vs “Should” seems to be a better directive of the question.
“CAN” one do it. Sure, one certainly can.
“SHOULD” one do it, is far more a nuanced question.
In such a small market, “SHOULD” is so much more important than “CAN”. There are many ways to skin a cat, pick the one that results in the least amount of scratches.
