Can I separate fats and waxes from my hte using a centrifuge?

@cyclopath tried but my centrifuge is cheap and gets hot,couldn’t separate anything that way it all looked the same after 1 hour,i think a cold centrifuge would work better,im getting hte cold as we speak and im about to try that way

Didn’t work with cold hte :joy: still same thing
Maybe hte doesn’t contain enough fats snd waxes to separate,i will try to winterize with ethanol and see what happens

Drop jars into a dry ice slurry in a bucket.

Pour off your fraction.

Also also. Clean HTE that is thick AF is typically minor cannabinoids. Not fat/wax/lipid

You can deffinitly spin out coagulated fats and wax also.

You are correct that spinning at 35-40C isn’t going to work. Not unless you can spin considerably faster than your machine is capable of. Or invoke some other bits of tech.

Winterizing a small sample to confirm that you’re actually dealing with “fats & waxes” isn’t a horrible idea. Winterizing it all will wreck it (removing the ethanol will do a number on your terp profile).

Yes, I believe I could manage that trick. Probably with only a couple more pieces than you appear to have on hand.

No, I’m not giving that one away just yet…certainly not before trying it (I have almost certainly pointed to the required hardware in the past).

As @qma intimated, distillation is probably the most effective route. I suspect @vortal’s solution would work better with a touch more solvent in there.

I’d add some butane to redissolve then winterize (with butane, not EtOH) on dry ice (in a pressure vessel, not a glass jar).
You can pour off the top like was suggested or filter through a buchner with a hand pump.

You’ll still lose more terps purging your refined HTE down, so cold trap those bad boys and clean them up on the short path later.

I’ve been able to seperate terps and minors pretty effectively as long as there really is high terpenes. They pretty much act just like any other “hydrocarbon refrigerant”

I’ll typically do 16oz jars with roughly 450ml and still pour off like 70-80% liquid phase fraction.

Terps make pretty amazing heat transfer fluid

What speed are you spinning at?

Thats what i did,i tried a small sample in ethanol to see if it has any fats and waxes
I dont have a big amount of this hte its just 70 g from a badder that was too wet and customers didn’t like the consistency

@qma I dont have any extraction equipment like a short path but you guys are making me to get on the train when a lot of people are getting out :joy:

4000 rmp nothing happens for 1 hour

1 hour isnt enough at that speed. You should be going for 3-4x that time

Maybe you should ask @Waxplug1 what he’s doing different. He gets separation at 4k rpm.

You might lose a few water solubles… But just winterize in methanol or ethanol…

8:1 ethanol, winterize, filter

Then add 5:1 pentane stir vigorously in a separatory funnel

Add 8:1 water (or 1:1 proportion to your alcohol)

Your alcohol and water will bind, all your Terps and cannabinoids will hop up to your pentane layer on top.

Get rid of your bottom layer

Evaporate your pentane

The majority of your terps will be intact, other than what boils below your pentane temps (38c)
