Can I hook up the cold trap of my rotovap with a short path distillation apparatus ?

Im looking at SPD kits and most of them come with a cold trap that works with dry ice, the problem is that where I live there is no dry ice and its going to become a problem for me to get some, so I was thinking maybe there is a way I can hook up the cold trap of my rotovap to the SPD kit.

Also there is another issue I need help with, will the vacuum pump shown in the picture work with the SPD kit ? Im aware that I need a rotary vane pump, I was looking at some on ebay like the alcatel people love on this forum, but right now money is super tight so im wondering if I could make my pump work with it since it works fine with my rotovap but maybe I need more vacuum for SPD I really dont know.

If the case is that I can use my pump and cold trap with the SPD kit would be amazing since ill be able to afford it

Thats just a condenser on your rotovap. It doesn’t get cold enough to stop and condense all the vapors from getting into your pump. Really you should use a cold trap on your roto unless you are using one of the water aspirator vacuum pumps otherwise you will end up with solvent in your pump. Your pump might work for spd if its a 1L or 2L set up. A deep vacuum is key to getting good results for spd. My 10L spd never goes over 100microns its usually between 30-50microns after the volatiles are finished. A good decarb makes a big difference.

You can het cheap dry ice makers if you have access to co2 tanks. Or an immersion chiller depending on budget

To bad but the pump won t pull enough vacuum and the condensor not enough cold
@Concentrated_humbold stated you can make dry ice yourself with a prefabricated dry ice maker or
Pillowcases x3
Also co2 tanks can be bought at the local softdrink/draft beer wholesale shop
Or get a hold of some second hand fire extiguishers of co2 that are still full
And use that gas😁

Yeah I can get co2, I was just looking at the penguin brand for extracting dry ice out of a co2 tank, its around $150 bucks, is there any cheaper option ?

Now my main concern is the pump, you really think it wont be able to pull enough vacuum to get the job done ?

thanks for the info man, I looked them up and they will do the trick as I refill my 20 lbs co2 tanks for under 20 bucks where I live

I got the cold trap issue fixed, now my main question is will the pump get the job done, do you think it will pull enough vacuum ?

No
Wrong type of pump. It may work.

Nope it s singel stage won t get near the 100 microns you need
