Burnt on crust on my first pass on thc crude need help

guys I need some help again. my short path runs are so much better since joining this forum , I have one last question to ask regarding the first run of crude thc oil .let me start with my sop if u can call it that . I start off with about 7l of crude oil in ethanol, fill my spd halfway and set the heat on the mantel to 50c and spin on 200 take off ethanol with vacuum (not on just switch the pump on to create vacuum to pull the ethanol off) once my 1l catching flask is full i then break vacuum to empty it out and grease and reset .then continue to do this till i have all my crude in the spd . when everything is in i start the degas (vacuum pump on /off till the oil settles and don’t want to boil like it want to leave the boiling flask . then start to slowly bring the heat up till about 130c to extract terps and volatiles in 5c per change . i notice around halfway to heads that my crude is burning and feel stumped , is it not filtered properly , is it the vacuum breaks while filling or is it ethanol sugars that need to filtered off. note don’t have a roto as of yet that’s why I’m doing it this way

thank u to everyone for all the tips thus far. def appreciate each and every one of u on this forum

Do you have a vacuum gauge?

Sounds like you’re burning sugars, is this warm ethanol extract?

What’s your vacuum like ? In microns ?

221m when i saw the burnt layer , not sue when it happened only saw it when i took off the jacket

yes extracted with room temp ethanol , winterized and filtered the crude before distilling the ethanol off

I don’t know that I can be much assistance as I have only once ever distilled crude that was extracted by me with ethanol. I had a huge problem with what I believe is sugars that crystallized and screwed everything up for me and I absolutely hated it and never returned to alcohol extracted crude again. If I had to guess and do it over again I would probably do LLE’s after recuperating the alcohol and before the first pass, in the hope that I can get rid of water soluble crap…. But then again doing an LLE before first pass has its own challenges

More general line of inquiry:

When you do all this vacuum pump on off, are you using a valve for that or actually turning the pump off and on?

Where are you measuring your vacuum level? (like where is the actual gauge located in the system)

@pdxcanna is probably right sugars are very likely the issue

LLE is the answer so evap all ethanol off dissolve in heptane wash with clean water 3x

Evaporate heptane off then decarb

If you recover your heptane at normal atmosphere your decarboxilating in the same time

forgive my ignorance but what is LLE , where can i begin to understand this more?

Liquid Liquid Extraction.
