Bulk Winterization

That’s the one I use also

How much did that cost you? Can definitely see the benefit of one of those in a future project if its not exorbitantly expensive

don’t have that number stored. I think the 15PSI/Vac valve might have been $150. I saw them at $250 whilst searching for the Anver link posted above.

I got two of them, so they weren’t too bad. they don’t regulate low enough for use on a vac oven, which is what I initially purchased them for.

I find it comforting to know that the operator can’t collapse the $2k fermenter if they get distracted…

All you need is a bigger stock pot I use the induction cookers from Costco there about 75$

Curious about how you get the the inlet hose into your roto globe. Do you disconnect the globe from the rotovap and then stick hose directly into globe or do you disconnect the feed port and slip inlet hose in that way?

On my 50L rotos I have both a feed port that comes in straight towards the evaporation globe and a second port for ??vacuum relief?? that is at a 60* or so angle to the feed port, it’s easier to pull the second one loose, then I’ve got an 18MM opening to drop my poly hose through.

You can certainly pull the whole roto globe but I generally don’t unless I absolutely have to.

Ahh…My AI’s don’t have this second port on them. I am thinking the easiest solution for me will be to just remove the feed tube port and slide the slurp tube in that way. Have you considered extending your feed tube so it reaches the bottom of your flask and then sucking out of the actual feed tube? I will be building a slurp tank right away. This will save countless hours and hassle of handling these large flasks. Thanks for sharing.

I am concerned that the amount of torque that viscous crude at room temp could put on the glass part of the feed tube could easily break it. As well, you would have to not only extend the glass part but have some sort of flexible part which has the ability to hang down into the evaporation globe. IMO, far better to just use a long poly tube with an angle cut on the tip rather than potentially break your glass.

Agreed on the risk of breaking the glass. Doesn’t take much time to remove the feed port on my AI’s or the break vacuum port like you have on your rotovaps. Thanks for the quick responses.

I insert mine at the end and have a piece of tubing pinched at the end so you get a spray effect, and cut it so it just barely inside the globe when fully tightened

Thanks for your input. Lots of ways to experiment and find what works best for us.
